Itís always fun to post childrenís artwork on the fridge.
Now imagine the whole Civic Center full of kidsí works of art.
The third-annual Student Art Expo is set for 5-8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
The show is not juried, but judging will take place this afternoon.
The event, sponsored by Carolina Artists, is free and the public is invited.
Organizers hope that all Rowan County public schools and private schools will be represented.
iWeíre looking for 100 percent participation,î says Carol Dunkley, a member of the Carolina Artists who has headed up the project.
Sheís working with the school systemís art teachers. Members of Carolina Artists spent all day today hanging art.
iLast year, we had over 650 entries,î Dunkley notes.
This yearís show features two-dimensional art in a variety of media. For the first time, photography is added.
iSo many of the art students in the schools are interested in photography,î Dunkley says.
Thanks to the Rowan Arts Council and a grant from the Grassroots program of the North Carolina Arts Council, Dunkley says, iWeíve got great gifts this year.î
The Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department is also a sponsor.
First-, second- and third-place awards will be given in each of five grade categories, with prizes for numerous honorable mentions.
Dunkley wants to make sure that school staffs, parents, grandparents and friends attend the show. Light refreshments will be served.
iWe need lots of people to come and see what these kids can do,î Dunkley says. iItís amazing to watch the kidsí faces as they come through the door and see their artwork displayed. They are so proud.î
