Area Sports Briefs: East baseball wins

Hayden Setzer, Jake Davis and Colby Myrick combined on a shutout as East Rowan’s baseball team won at Concord, 9-0, in South Piedmont Conference action on Thursday.
Nathan Hill hit a two-run homer for East (9-6, 8-4), his first of the season. Chandler Blackwelder, Corbin Moss and Bryson Wagner had two hits each.
Setzer had a run-scoring double. Jax Fitz had a hit and a sac fly.
The game marked the return to the dugout of East head coach Brian Hightower.

Robinson got a run in the top of the first inning and went on to beat Carson, 4-0, in SPC action on Thursday.
Robinson hurler Jason White struck out nine, fired a complete game and held Carson to three hits.
The Bulldogs had eight hits. Maddux Holshouser (2-3) pitched into the seventh for the Cougars and struck out nine but took the loss.
Owen White had two hits and drove in a run for Carson (10-4, 9-3).
The Cougars’ setback tightened the league race. Carson is now tied for first with West Rowan. East Rowan, South Rowan and Cox Mill are one game off the pace.
Carson is at South Rowan tonight and plays at West Rowan on Saturday afternoon.
Minor leagues
Two runs in the eighth inning broke a late tie and the Kannapolis Intimidators fell to the Lakewood BlueClaws, 7-5, in Thursday night’s season opener at Intimidators Stadium.
Getting two hits each for Kannapolis were Joel Booker, Jameson Fisher, Mitch Roman and Micker Adolfo. The Intimidators had 10 hits.
Lakewood banged out 13 hits, including two by 18-year-old center fielder Mickey Moniak, the first pick in last June’s MLB draft.
The Intimidators and BlueClaws are back in action on Friday at 7:05 p.m.

Women’s lacrosse
DUE WEST, S.C. — Catawba claimed a 15-9 win over host Erskine on Thursday night at Huggins Field.
Catawba (9-4) got three goals each from Katie Barth , Gianna Pezzulo and Nicolette Salay. Pezzulo added four assists.
Stallions fall
The Greater Cabarrus Stallions lost 15-3 to High Point Christian on Thursday. Dalton Lankford had two hits for the Stallions. Camron Wallace had a two-run double. Clay Pinion also had a double.
The Stallions will play two games on Monday at McCrary Park against Southwest Randolph (5 p.m.) and Asheboro.
5K race
Knox Middle School will hold its 5th Annual Rock Your Socks 5K and Half Mile Fun Run on Sunday, April 9, at 2 p.m. at the school.
