Spring Carnival at the Rowan County Fairgrounds starts today

April 13-16: Free gate and admission Thursday-Friday 5 p.m.-close; Saturday and Sunday 1 p.m.-close; Pay one price wristband for $20 ($15 with coupon); wristband good all day.

There will be rides, games and food. The amusement rides are provided by Powers and Thomas Midway, the same company that provides rides at the Fair in the fall.

 

The second annual WRHS Athletic Booster Club Car Truck Bike & Tractor Show 

Mt. Ulla — On Saturday, April 15 the WRHS Athletic Booster Club will host its second Car Truck Bike & Tractor Show. The first show last April was a huge success with more than 100 vehicles. This year’s show is Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at West Rowan high School, 8050 HWy 801, Mt. Ulla (Rain date April 22).

There will be raffles, 50-50, poker walk, concessions and music. Registration is from 9-11 a.m., 20 per single vehicle; $15 additional (same owner), free to spectators. Sponsor awards are at noon, trophy presentation at 2 p.m. Judging will be done by professionals with 40+ years of combined experience in the auto restoration/modification field.More than 80 total trophies and sponsor awards will be given.

Christiana Lutheran presents Easter drama tonight and Friday

Auditions for ‘Pride & Prejudice’

Paranormal conference this weekend

North Wilkesboro — Ever wonder who the people are behind the scenes of your favorite paranormal TV shows? They are just like us: teachers, historians, reporters, retail workers, musicians and construction workers, etc., all with the same interest in the paranormal.

The Wilkes Playmakers will host the paranormal conference at 300 D. St., in historic Benton Hall, formerly the old North Wilkesboro School, built in 1913.  Price is $40 per person. Breakfast snacks and lunch are included.

The first 20 to sign up get to partake in an investigation of the historic premises with Piedmont Triad Paranormal Investigations after the conference.

Doors open at 10:30 a.m.

Participants include Graham Phelps, author of “Beings,” a novel about Robert Banning, who, as an 8-year old boy, came face to face with Ata’Layna, an entity who forever changed his perception of what it was to be an inhabitant of the Universe.

Lori Barberio Blackman talks about how religions and personal ideas fit into a life of being a “believer” in the paranormal.

Jeremiah Greer, once host of Shadows in the Dark and publisher of Mysteries Magazine, has been on numerous paranormal investigations as well as once heading his own.

Ray Absher, local author, historian and ghost tour guide, talks about some of the local history, legends and hauntings.

Piedmont Triad Paranormal Investigations discuss equipment used on investigations, and the findings of their investigation of Benton Hall.

There will be a panel discussion with Q&A from the audience.

At 6 p.m. is the investigation with PTPI of Historic Benton Hall for the first 20 pre-registered.

Also at 6 p.m. is a mini-candlelight ghost tour in Wilkesboro with costumed tour guides. Cost is $7 per person, and goes to the Wilkes Heritage Museum.
