Published 12:00 am Monday, April 28, 2008
Shane Davis has enjoyed drawing for as long as he can remember. He used to get in trouble in school for drawing in his notebooks. Now he gets paid to draw super heroes like Superman and Batman for DC Comics.
Davis, a Statesville native, is professional comic book artist and a rising star in the comic book industry. He is a graduate of the prestigious Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art. Shortly after finishing college, Davis got his first professional work doing some Robin issues at DC Comics.
He has been working steadily ever since. His work includes the Mystery in Space miniseries he launched in partnership with Jim Starlin. He also worked on one of DC Comic’s highest profile projects, the Justice League of America/Justice Society of America crossover, The Lightning Saga. He is currently at work on a Superman/Batman project with author Michael Green, who writes for the TV show “Heroes.”
Shane Davis is a great supporter of libraries. He recently donated 50 graphic novels, which are works of fiction in comic-book format, to the Iredell County Public Library. He also donated three of his original works of graphic art to the Iredell Friends of the Library to be raffled as a fundraiser. Raffle tickets may be purchased at the Iredell County Public Library in Statesville at a cost of $2 per ticket or 3 for $5.
Shane Davis will make an appearance at the Iredell County Public Library, 201 N. Tradd St., Statesville at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 30. He will talk about his work and bring materials to exhibit and to sell.
Raffle winners will be announced during his appearance.
