GLEN ALLEN, Va. — Livingstone’s golf team shot 11 strokes better during Friday’s second round of the CIAA Golf Championship, but Chowan played even better.

Chowan won the championship by shooting a team score of 306, 19 strokes better than the Hawks’ 325 during Thursday’s first round here at The Crossings Golf Club.

Livingstone also shot a 325 on Thursday and was tied with Chowan. The Blue Bears’ 314 on Friday gave them a two-day total of 639, good enough for third place.

First-round leader (322) Virginia Union matched Livingstone’s 314 on Friday, taking second place with a total score of 636. The Panthers finished five strokes behind Chowan.

Livingstone’s Phillip Harrison earned All-CIAA Tournament honors by tying for third place individually. Harrison carded a 74 on Friday, after a first-round 80. Harrison’s two-round total of 154 tied Isaiah Shaw of Fayetteville State.

Jordan Francis, of Chowan, was medalist with two solids rounds of 74 and 71. Francis’ 1-over par 145 was eight strokes better than runner-up Joshua Mohun of Virginia Union (78-75/153).

Virginia Union’s Allen Day rounded out the top five with a 155 (75-80). However, Day was the CIAA’s Golfer of the Year, based on a season average of 75.66, narrowly edging Francis’ 76.5.

Livingstone’s Stephen Washington had the sixth-best stroke average of 78.33, joining teammate Harrison (77 average) on the All-CIAA team.

Following Chowan, Virginia Union and Livingstone, other team scores from the two-day conference tournament were: Fayetteville State 650 (323-327), Johnson C. Smith 704 (362-342), Virginia State 704 (359-345), Elizabeth City State 790 (396-394) and St. Augustine’s 885 (450-435).
