Delta Xi Omega Chapter honors Golden Members

Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Delta Xi Omega Chapter honored Golden Members of the sorority on Friday, March 31 with a dinner at Livingstone College School of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management.

Chapter members recognized as Golden Members have achieved 50 years of service in the sorority. Golden Members honored at the dinner include: Lillie Nelson, 70 years of service; Jewell Holland, 66 years of service; Robbie Davis, 65 years of service; Sarah Lightner, 56 years of service; and Shirley Holt, 51 years of service.

Carolyn Holt and Suzette Davis, who joined the sorority in 1967, celebrated 50 years of service this year. Golden Members received special gifts to celebrate this milestone as members of the sorority. Lillie Nelson, who celebrated her 89th birthday on March 28, received special recognition as the chapter’s oldest active member. Students in the Culinary Arts Department at Livingstone College hosted the dinner for chapter members, family, and friends.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. is composed of more than 290,000 college-trained women committed to providing service in their respective communities and globally.

Sh’Myra L. Moore is the president of the Delta Xi Omega Chapter in Salisbury; Lovetta Ealy Moore, Suzette Davis, Stephanie Morgan, and Earnestine Krider serve on the Golden Member First Program and Planning Committee.

This training will provide information on understanding and dealing with how Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia change the fundamental structure of families and provide practical information on the different stages of dementia along with tips on the challenges faced at each level, as well as information on common behaviors and how to best assist your loved one navigate the everyday challenges. Call Cyndi Reinhardt at 336 460-1741 with questions.

 

Confederate Memorial day

CONCORD — Wednesday, May 10 at 7 p.m. The Coltrane-Harriss Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy and Sons of Confederate Veterans present a Confederate Memorial Day Celebration to honor the 125,000 troops the state of NC provided during the War between the States, 1861-1865. Held in the Old Cabarrus County Courthouse 65 Union St. South.

 

Save the date: Rowan Rose Show

1-5 p.m. Saturday, May 20 in the former JCPenney building at West End Plaza, 1935 Jake Alexander Blvd. West. Rowan Rose Society’s annual rose show. Area rose growers are invited to enter roses 6:30-10 a.m. that day. ASNC Rowan County

Autism Society of North Carolina-Rowan County support group will meet Tuesday, May 16 from 6:30-8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Room 108, 217 S. Church St. Enter on the Church St. side of the building through doors to the right of the courtyard. Special guest will be Dr. Sandra Albert, Exceptional Children’s Director at the Rowan Salisbury Schools.
