LANDIS — Town officials hope to make use of unused property in the near future.

At Monday’s Board of Aldermen meeting, Town Manager Reed Linn said he had recently been approached by a land broker.

David Luyster of the Luyster Group offered to help find a buyer for empty parcels within the town. Linn said many of the parcels had been set aside for consideration for a passive park.

“He’s very interested in putting all the surplus property that the town has into a package and putting it on the market,” Linn told the board.

This is the first time a broker has approached the town offering to sell the parcels as a bundle, Linn said.

No approval was required Monday night, but Linn sought direction from the board on how to proceed.

“I think it’d be worth looking into,” Alderman Dennis Brown said.

Linn said he would continue to negotiate with the group. He expects Luyster would have a proposal to present to the board for approval at its June 5 meeting.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a proclamation for National Day of Prayer, to be held Thursday.
• Learned that it did not need to approve a conditional-use permit for a communications tower, as the proposed tower would violate zoning setback requirements.
• Called for a budget hearing to be held May 18 after a 6 p.m. budget workshop.
• Were told that pool tickets will go on sale May 15. There have been no increases in pool fees.
• Discussed the town’s annual golf tournament scheduled May 19. All proceeds will benefit the town’s passive park plan.
