New London UMC, 206 S. Main St., New London, will host a free community lunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. serving hamburgers and hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, dessert. We will also play Bingo.

Sandy Ridge Celebrates 151 Years of Faith

LANDIS — The 151st anniversary celebration for historic Sandy Ridge Church, Mt. Moriah Church Road, will be held on Sunday, with 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. services. The theme is “151 Years of Faith.”

The church began around 1866 in a brush arbor near Sechler’s Pond in the China Grove Township. The second structure was a log structure built in the area where the current sanctuary is now building, begun by a group of newly freed slaves. The building which now serves as the fellowship hall was the very first brick structure. The current sanctuary was completed in 1984. There have been 48 pastors during the past 151 years.

Current pastor Rev. Clarence J. Shuford Jr., will speak at the 10 a.m. service. The Mass Choir under the direction of. Janet Murdock and C. Eugene Caldwell, will provide the music. A memorial tribute will be held in remembrance of members of the church, who have passed on since May of 2016.

The afternoon service features Rev. Dr. Derrick R. Anderson of Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church. During this service, four members will be honored for their dedicated service to the church: Andrew T. Harris, Richard McKinley, Augusta Livingston and Kenneth W. Norton I.

This year’s Annual Hall of Fame induction, an honor bestowed upon members reaching their 70th birthday, includes: John B. Faulkner III, Jacqueline “Jackie” Hester, Frances Glenn, and Calvin Shaw Sr.

The Church Anniversary Committee is chaired by Bennett Hester Sr. and includes Adrain Scott, Deborah Shaw, Calvin Shaw, Paulette Byers, Janet Murdock, Fidelina Jackson, Jennie Wright, Catherine Rivens, John H. Russell Jr., Kelly Hester, Jackie Hester, Frances Glenn, David Brown, Michael Allison, Karen Brown, Andrew Harris, Jacqueline Anthony, Eugene Caldwell, Pearl Melchor, and pastor Rev. Clarence J. Shuford Jr.

Mt. Zion UCC

CHINA GROVE– This Sunday is Youth Sunday during the 10:30 a.m. service at Mt. Zion UCC, 415 S. Main St. Evans Leinbach will bring the morning message, along with the children’s choir. Participating in the service will be Colby Cress, Madison Rawlings, Savanna Bancroft, Kelsey Sanchez, Isabel Sanchez, Ally Cress, Alex Lizarazo, Miguel Valdez, Ethan Bancroft and Travis Lowder. Mt. Hall’s Temple Woman’s Day

Hall’s Temple Church on N. Long Street will host its annual Woman’s Day on Sunday. The 11 a.m. speaker is Vonda Bruce, a member of Dorsett Chapel. The 3:30 p.m. speaker will be Pastor Doris Clawson of Lilly’s Chapel.

First Presbyterian 

First Presbyterian Church’s newest officers will be ordained and installed during the 11 a.m. Sunday service.

At 4 p.m. in the sanctuary will be a Service of Wholeness and Healing.

Sunday evening at 7 p.m. in Lewis Hall, the Charlotte Bronze Handbell Ensemble will conduct a concert with Lady D and Carlos Rivera. The concert will feature Latin, Blues and Jazz style music performed by this amazing handbell group. The concert is free.

FUMC confirmation class 

First United Methodist Church celebrates the culmination of its confirmation class on Sunday, at the 11 a.m. service. Immanuel Lutheran graduation Sunday!

ROCKWELL —Six college graduates will be specially honored during the 11 a.m. Sunday service at Immanuel Lutheran: Rachel Hughes (East Carolina University), Dominique Karriker (Catawba College), Allyson Mills (Pfeiffer University), Stephanie Sides (Guilford College), Taylor Trexler (Rowan-Cabarrus Community College) and Nathan Wyatt (Catawba College).

Pastor Sheeks will present special gifts from the congregation, and recognize all other graduates in preschool, kindergarten, elementary school and middle school. Vickie Goodman, chair of the Immanuel Scholarship Committee, will present scholarships to those continuing their pursuit of higher education. Following the service, the Irene Beaver Circle will host a reception.

This will also be BLITZ Sunday for Organ Lutheran Church Outreach Ministries. Items needed this month include: deodorant, dish detergent, shampoo, conditioner, diapers, sanitary pads, toilet paper, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes.

Spencer Presbyterian

SPENCER — The annual strawberry festival at Spencer Presbyterian Church is Sunday, from 1-3 p.m. in the fellowship hall and on the grounds. Assorted strawberry desserts will be served at no charge. Entertainment includes Elvis impersonator Michael Thomas; gymnast Rylan Furr; vocalists Quincy Cook, Mallory Braun, Alexis Cowan, North Rowan Middle School “Newest Edition;” NRHS band members; and other local performers. The church is located on 1st St. across from the entrance to the NC Transportation Museum.

St. John AME Zion 

EAST SPENCER — St. John AME Zion Church celebrates its 120th church anniversary on Sunday. Dinner is at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Patrick Tate, pastor of Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church in East Spencer will preach the 3 p.m. service.

Rhema Praise and Worship 

SPENCER — The Ushers of Rhema Praise and Worship Church, 117 Long Ferry Road, is celebrating their sixth anniversary on Sunday at 3 p.m. Pastor Patricia Brown of Whosoever Let Them Come Ministries will be the guest speaker. Host pastor is Rev. Alonza Williams Sr.

Women’s Day Program
