Friday’s Lights of Love benefits The Humane Society
The annual Lights of Love luminaria project around the Salisbury City Lake takes place Friday, May 12, (rain date Saturday, May 13) from dusk until 9:30 p.m.

Annual Gold Hill Gold Rush Days
GOLD HILL — Step back in time and join the folks in the Historic Village of Gold Hill for Gold Rush Days Arts & Crafts Festival on Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m.
Local artists and craft persons will be displaying and selling their work throughout the village. In addition to visiting the village shops and bakery, guests can participate in gem mining and enjoy live bluegrass music and food throughout the day. Midnight’s Promise Spring Fling
Midnight’s Promise Equine Rescue, 685 Delta St., will be hosting a Spring fundraiser and open house Saturday from 2-7 p.m. There will be tours of the rescue, music, games for the kids, dogs and brats and desserts for sale. Dr. Freeze on the ‘Ulster Migration’
The Genealogical Society of Rowan will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16 in the Hurley Room at Rowan Public Library. The program will feature Catawba History Professor Dr. Gary Freeze as he speakes on the “Ulster Migration.”
FirstARTS hosts art gallery opening tonight
The First United Methodist Church FirstARTS series and the Carolina Artist Guild present “Light and Life: A Gallery of Sunrises and Sunsets” in the Fisher Street addition beginning this evening at 7 p.m. with a public gala opening. More than 100 pieces of art featuring sunrises and sunsets will be on display. The CAG will donate 15 percent of art sold to the Family Crisis Council of Rowan County. The exhibit continues through June 2. On Sunday, May 14 at 11 a.m., FUMC opens its ninth season of FirstARTS with a service of music featuring Ola Gjeilo’s “Sunrise Mass” accompanied by string orchestra and choir. ROCKWELL — The 21st annual car show at the 111th anniversary Nazareth Fun Fest celebration benefits Nazareth Child & Family Connection. The annual Faith Idol contest is accepting applicaitons for contestants for its annual Faith Fourth of July competition. Categories are for • ages 12 and under • 13-18 and • 19 and above. Set in the 1960s, it follows Bernard, a handsome bachelor living in Paris. He is simultaneously seeing three different airline stewardesses and succeeds in his infidelity as their flight schedules never overlap. Until now.
The new Super Boeing jets cause a change in the time tables, there is a frantic race to prevent the women from opening the wrong door at the wrong time. Havoc ensues when the three women, each believing they are engaged to Bernard, arrive at the same time. Levental opening reception
CONCORD — Solo artist Nelli Levental’s one woman show, “Lights, Camera… Paper: Stories Created from the Paper, Light and Love for Theater” opens Saturday at Clearwater Studios, 223 Crowell Dr. NW. Levental builds miniature, three-dimensional stage sets out of paper card stock – her default set measures 16 x 20 x 20 inches — and creates paper ‘characters’ which are placed and lit, within the set and then photographed. Stories are set and shot in sequences, or individual scenes (depending on the story); then, sequences are sewn into narratives using video. Spring into Arts Festival Saturday
CONCORD— On Saturday in Downtown Concord is the annual Spring into Arts Festival from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Union Street. Enjoy the juried art show show on artist row with more than 20 participating artists. Creation Station, the festival’s children’s area, will have live performances throughout the day. The Concord Library along with Concord Parks and Recreation will be providing hands-on activities for children.
New this year, a stage featuring local and regional musicians and dancers will be at the north end of the festival.
