First Presbyterian ordination and orientation

On Sunday during its Life Center Worship Service at 8:50 a.m., First Presbyterian Church, 308 W Fisher St., will ordain and install Elder Steve Thomas.

At 12:15 p.m. in the fellowship hall, the church wll hold orientation and training for teachers and leaders of its Fun Maker Vacation Bible School.

At 3 p.m., the church will hold a Presbyterian 101 class for all those interested in joining FPC.

Boxwood pre-Father’s Day concert

MOCKSVILLE — Various groups will be on hand at Boxwood Misionary Baptist Church on Sunday at 3 p.m. to celebrate fathers, past and present, maternal and paternal, and acknowledge the great men in our lives. Dinner will follow the program.

There will be no eveing speaker, just a joyful noise unto the Lord. Sponsored by the Pastor’s Aid Ministry.

Ebenezer Lutheran Church celebrates homecoming

For Ebenezer Lutheran Church’s 150th anniversary year homecoming service on Sunday, the Rev. Michael Comer returns ass guest preacher. Rev. Comer served at Ebenezer Lutheran from 2001-2010. Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m., and there will be a combined worship service at 10:30 a.m., followed by a covered dish meal in the fellowship hall.

Neel Road Baptist commissions youth team 

Over the past two years, Neel Road Baptist Church’s Student Ministry has gone to Washington D.C. and shared the gospel with more than 400 strangers representing well over 20 countries. The largest team yet, 24 strong, will be commissioned on June 11 at 11 a.m. at 135 Neel Road. Leaving after the service, and led by youth pastor Brian Hancock, they will be wearing the initials of a fellow team member from last year, Ella Ferguson, who went on to be with our Lord on Nov. 7, 2016 [see Post Article “The Thing About Ella,” Nov. 8, 2016]. They will return on June 17.

Children’s Day at Cedar Grove 

Children’s Day will be observed at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church on Sunday, along with the Little Master & Miss Cedar Grove Contest. Our contestants are: Kingston Carpenter, Zoe Coletrane, Catriana Hovis, Ty’Jon Cole, Quincy Rowland, Delaylah Watson and JaKayden Howell.

Guest speaker will be Keshun Sherrill, graduate of Augusta University, the all-time leading point guard scorer at Augusta University and Peach Belt Conference and the son of Keith and Rhonda Sherrill. Host pastor is Rev. Dr. Bertha Pittman.

Salem Evangelical welcomes new pastor

Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5080 Sherrills Ford Road, announces the installation of Pastor Dawn W. Rister to serve as its 13th pastor. She was originally called to serve on March 1. The service of installation will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.

Pastor Dawn was ordained as a minister of the North American Lutheran Church (NALC) on receiving the call to Salem. Previously a Youth Minister at St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church in Chapin, S.C., she received her Masters of Divinity through Hood Theological Seminary. She is originally from Lexington, S.C., where she was a teacher and a coach in the South Carolina schools. During her tenure as an educator, she was recognized as Teacher of the Year and also served on numerous leadership and advisory committees. She and husband Doug are the parents of daughter Taylor and sons Tucker and Cooper.

Bluegrass concert at Milford Hills Baptist

Trading Ford Baptist presents musical ‘Daniel’

‘Don’t Give Up’ Convention 

WINSTON-SALEM — The Lawrence Joel Memorial Coliseum will hold a “Don’t Give Up” Convention June 16-18 and June 23-25, from 9:20 a.m.-4:50 p.m. each day. The program is divided into 52 parts and will be presented in brief discourses, interviews and short videos. One segment of a three-part feature film titled “Remember the Wife of Lot” will be shown each afternoon. The convention will benefit both Witnesses and non-Witnesses, promising to empower individuals not only to keep enduring but also to cope with challenges productively. The convention is free of cost. Legacy Weekend at OCM

The Founders of Outreach Christian Ministries will be honored the weekend of June 16-18, a weekend that marks a significant milestone in the history of OCM and the Westside Community. The event takes place at 722 W. Horah St. 5:30 p.m. starting Friday, June 16 with a meet-and-greet with the First Family at 1802 1st Street.

Two programs at Moore’s Chapel AME Zion

Moore’s Chapel will hold a Reading, Music and Creative Expression Camp from June 19-23, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the church, 500 Partee St., for toddlers through pre-college. A meal will be provided daily by the USDA School Lunch Program. The camp is free and open to the public. Volunteers are welcome and van transportation is available.
