ALBEMARLE — The Patriot Guard of North Carolina will escort two Ride of Pride trucks from Freightliner through Rowan, Cabarrus and Stanly counties today as part of an honors tour recognizing veterans, fallen heroes and those currently serving in the military.
One of the trucks is dedicated to all the services; the other, to Pearl Harbor and World War II.
Ron Faggart of American Legion Riders Post 520 has posted a schedule for the day. The staging will be at 7 a.m. in the IGA parking lot across from the Freightliner plant in Cleveland.
The Ride of Pride trucks will arrive by 7:45 a.m., and the motorcycle escort will take off at 8 a.m., arriving in the Food Lion parking lot in Richfield by 9 a.m.
The trucks also will be on display at 10 a.m. at Wal-Mart in Albemarle; at Locust Town Centre (Veterans Memorial Park) in Locust at 11:15 a.m.; and at Charlotte Motor Speedway at 12:45 p.m. for the rest of the day.
The Patriot Guard will serve as escort between all the stops.
Each year, Freightliner designs and builds at least one Ride of Pride truck. That truck travels each Memorial Day to Rolling Thunder in Washington with a motorcycle escort.
