SALISBURY — No one was injured in a fire involving a concrete mixer truck Wednesday afternoon at Chandler Concrete, Salisbury Fire Department officials said.

The cab of the truck caught fire and was destroyed, but there was little or no damage to the mixer. No cause was determined, said Battalion Chief David Morris.

“We could see smoke from Station No. 1 and so we upgraded to another ladder company,” Morris said.

The additional personnel were called in because the business has so many trucks coming and going, as well as because of the heat.

“So as a precaution, we added another ladder company to the call. It’s a little warm. The temperature is up in the 90s, and anytime you have firefighters working in this kind of temperature, it’s easy for them to exhausted from the heat,” Morris said.

Rowan County EMS was on standby at the scene.

The company refuels in the afternoon, and the truck had a load of fuel in it. The Fire Department’s hazardous materials team was able to contain the fuel, and Chandler Concrete disposed of it, Morris said.
