Impeachment is on the table, and it need not need wait until 2018. As Kirk Kovach wrote in his Sunday letter (“Don’t jump to impeachment conclusion,” May 21), the evidence continues to pile higher and higher. Eventually this will become enough to make even the staunchest Republicans realize they let the fox into the hen-house, and it’s time for Trump to go.

Impeachment proceedings seem more and more inevitable with each new headline, but the accusations of partisanship are growing louder as well. One thing Republican voters should consider is this: If a Democrat calls for impeachment, they are calling Mike Pence to be our 46th president.

This alone should be enough to dissolve the illusion of partisanship. At least on paper, Pence is more a threat to progressive and liberal policy goals than Trump ever was. But after a few hundred days of Trump’s presidential approach, that is a bargain many liberals would readily accept.

And I’m willing to bet that a fair number of conservatives will eventually agree: At least those who prefer Fox News to Breitbart.

And remember: Whether tomorrow, or after the 2018 election, and even if every open Senate seat is won by Democrats, the party will not have the votes alone to remove President Trump without broad Republican support. Without it, Impeachment will merely be political theater. Theater which, if timed right, could help win the Democrats the House and Senate majorities.
