Catawba  right fielder Luke Setzer (East Rowan) is officially a first-team All-American.

He’s on the team announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association earlier this week.

In a breakout junior season, Setzer batted .417 with 18 homers, 57 RBIs and 69 runs scored. He had 102 hits in 57 games.

Prep baseball

A.L. Brown’s Robby Clarke, Matt Baucom and Dylan Shubert made the All-MECKA team.

A.L. Brown  Wonders baseball and softball teams will be honored at Intimidators Stadium prior to tonight’s game.

Intimidators

  Micker Adolfo homered in the second inning to put Kannapolis ahead to stay in a 3-2 win against Greensboro on Thursday.

Adolfo’s blast traveled 418 feet.

Jimmy Lambert  (60-2) earned the win with six innings of work.  Kyle Kubat recorded his second save with five strikeouts in the eighth and ninth.

Adolfo was named the White Sox Minor League Player of the Month earlier on Thursday.  He batted .333 for the month with 17 RBIs in 24 games.

Kannapolis hosts Greensboro tonight at 7:05 p.m.

  Saturday is Superhero Night featuring appearances by Spiderman and Wonder Woman, plus post-game Superhero-themed fireworks.

Local golf

Forty-three GARS members played in foursomes at Lexington Golf Club.

Low ‘A’ Flight player was Larry Petrea with a net of 67.31.

Low ‘B’ Flight player was Frank Masingo with a net of 67.62.

Low ‘C’ Flight player was Jim Brown with a net of 69.03.

Low ‘D’ Flight player was Denny Wenker with a net of 75.24.

Winsten Mahaffey, 80, shot a 79. Lou Manning, 83, shot 83, and Clayton Steele, 85, shot 84.

Wood bat leagues

Connor Johnson (East Rowan, Catawba) pitched six scoreless innings for the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders in the Northwoods League on Thursday.

Johnson  (1-0) pitched six scoreless innings. He struck out eight and allowed four hits and no walks.

Michael Elwell (Catawba) is off to a good start with the Springfield Sliders in the Prospect League.

In two relief outings, Elwell (1-0) has struck out seven in 2 2/3 innings.

Junior Legion

In Carson’s 13-0 win against theKannapolis Royals, Cole Hales pitched four shutout innings.

C.P. Pyle had two hits and two RBIs. Daniel Leonard drove in two. Sollie Holshouser and Hales had two hits each.
