Ebenezer Lutheran 

CHINA GROVE —  On Sunday, Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 4914 Old Beatty Ford Road, will observe Independence Day with its annual Patriotic Service at 10:30 a.m., followed by a hamburger and hot dog cookout. Guest preacher for the service is Lucas Safrit., whose parents and grandparents are members at Ebenezer. His great-grandmother is Ruby Martin, Ebenezer’s oldest member.

Lucas is an Eagle Scout from Ebenezer’s Troop 328, is currently a senior at Catawba College, and plans to attend seminary.

There will also be the “ingathering” of sponsorships for ten members attending church camp at Lutheridge this summer and for youth members who will be participating in the C.H.A.O.S. Mission Trip to South Dakota in July.

 

The Arbor UMC

The Arbor United Methodist Church, 5545 Woodleaf Road, will be hosting a farewell lunch on Sunday for Frank and Mary Gordon, co-pastors at The Arbor, which is their last service date at the church. The lunch will take place after the 10:30 a.m. service.

After retirement the Gordons will be residing at their home in Lenoir. The new pastor is the Rev. Craig Sefa.

In addition to the farewell lunch for the Gordons, the dedication of a Veteran’s Memorial and the new columbarium onsite will take place.

 

Faith Lutheran 

FAITH — Faith Lutheran Church, 205 South Main St., will hold its annual Patriotic Service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. This service will feature the Posting of the Colors, the National Anthem and hymns including “Under God,” “God of Our Fathers,” “Ancient Words” and “Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus.” All baptized Christians are invited to receive the sacrament of Holy Communion.

Landmark 

Landmark Church, 1910 Mooresville Road, will hold an All American Celebration and Car Show from 4-8 p.m on Sunday. The church will provide hot dogs, popcorn, cold drinks and homemade ice cream. This is a free, kid-friendly birthday party for the United States.

 

Spencer Presyterian 

SPENCER — Spencer Presbyterian Church will hold a service of prayer for our nation on Sunday  at 4 p.m. Worship will consist of scripture readings, prayer and song. Music will be provided by Beth Young and the Rev. Larry Summey. Worship leaders are the Rev. Barrie Kirby, Spencer Presbyterian Church; the Rev. Kris Mares, Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church; the Rev. Stephen Burrow, First Baptist Church in Spencer; and the Rev. Rick Galloway, Dorsett Chapel United Church of Christ. The church is located on First St. in Spencer across from the entrance to the N.C. Transportation Museum.

Rose of Sharon Holiness

On Saturday, July 8 at 11 a.m., Rose of Sharon Holiness Church, 255 Camp Road, will be hosting an anniversary service for their pastor of 23 years, Rev. Lewis G. Walker. Blackwelder Park Baptist 

KANNAPOLIS – On July 9 at 5 p.m. Blackwelder Park Baptist Church, 2204 Summit Ave., will host a musical freedom celebration titled “America! A Pilgrim’s Prayer; A Patriot’s Dream.”

The musical, created by Randy Vader, Jay Rouse and Camp Kirkland, combines patriotic songs with gospel classics. The event will feature a special salute to veterans, honoring each branch of the United States Military.

Local community performers and members of the Piedmont Primetime Community Band will join the Blackwelder Park Baptist Church Choir and Praise Band for the musical production. Following the performance, there will be hotdogs, hamburgers and ice cream.

My Father’s House

In My Father’s House, led by the Rev. Roosevelt Jenkins, meets the first two Thursdays of each month from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The next services will be on July 7 and 14 in the Hurley Room at Rowan Public Library. In My Father’s House is also hosting community awareness services. A special invitation is extended to pastors, councilwomen and councilmen, firemen, first responders, community advocates, the mayor, widows and widowers, parents and the elderly.

 

Moore’s Chapel AME Zion 

Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 500 Partee St., will have a special program sponsored by the Christian Education Department on Sunday, July 9 at 3 p.m.

Guest preacher will be the Rev. Dr. David A. McLean, pastor of Grace AME Zion Church in Charlotte.

McLean, a native of Greensboro, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from NC State University, a Master of Divinity degree from Hood Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary.

Dr. McLean has served as a past vice chairman of the steering committee of the Connectional Young Adults in Christian Ministries Department  and has served pastorates at Mt. Calvary AME Zion Church in Monroe and is the immediate past pastor of Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church.

The Rev. Carolyn D. Bratton is host pastor.
