Letter: Remembering a no-kill shelter visionary

A champion for animals in Rowan County has died. Anne Ingram had a vision for a no-kill sanctuary to protect unwanted, often abused and neglected, cats and dogs. Her drive and love for animals resulted in forming a group of persons who shared her promise of love for God’s creatures.

In what was a short period of time, the Board of Faithful Friends became a reality.

Anne was able to connect with Salisbury and Rowan County persons who made her dream come true, and the Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary was built on Grace Church Road.

Cats and dogs have a home and all are guaranteed that they can live there forever if not adopted.

I found it sad to read her obituary as she obviously penned her words, all written with love in her heart for animals. She asked that memorials be made to Faithful Friends.

Even in her impending death from ovarian cancer, her heart was filled with love and care for animals.

Anne Ingram’s picture sits in a prominent place in the lobby of Faithful Friends. Were it possible, she would stand as a statue at the gate and proclaim that all of us are responsible for the care of all animals.

That was her legacy.

All of us have a responsibility to care for animals needing help. We are fortunate to have the Humane Society, Shelter Guardians and other organizations that share a common goal.

My champion is Anne Ingram.

Gifts in her memory can be directed to Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary
