‘Creative Colleges’ guide again includes Catawba College

In the fifth edition of “Creative Colleges,” Catawba College is again included as one of the options for arts majors across the board.

Compiled by Elaina Loveland — a former dancer, writer, editor, teacher and editor-in-chief of International Educator and The Journal of College Admission — the Creative Colleges guidebook is considered by many as a must-have resource for college-bound students studying the creative arts in the U.S. The guide balances nurturing students’ passions with providing practical college advice and what it takes to build a career as an artist.

The guide can help creative students decide if Catawba College is the school where they will thrive. They will also read stories about real students and tips on auditioning and preparing portfolios, as well as preparing and presenting artistic statements, admissions essays and artistic resumes.

Church plans creative expression, basketball camps

Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church will hold a Reading, Music and Creative Expression Camp from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 19-23. The church is at 500 Partee St.

The camp is for toddlers through pre-college students. A meal will be provided daily by the USDA School Lunch Program. The camp is free and open to the public. Volunteers are welcome, and van transportation is available.

Moore’s Chapel will present a FACT Skills and Drills Basketball Camp from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 17-21.

The camp will be held in Livingstone College’s William Trent Gymnasium at 701 W. Monroe St. The camp is free, and lunch and transportation are provided. Contact Coach DeCarlo Duling at 770-899-7897 for more information.
