The Kannaopolis Intimidators scored four runs in the eighth inning and won 5-1 at Lakewood on Thursday at FirstEnergy Park.

Kannapolis (31-26) pounded out 12 hits.

Kannapolis opens a four-game series at Delmarva tonight.

Soccer Academy

The Catawba Soccer Academy is holding a camp for ages 5-12 on June 19-22, at Catawba College.

Full-day and half-day camp experiences are offered.

The Academy is designed to teach the fundamentals of soccer in a fun and challenging atmosphere. Sessions will focus primarily on the technical aspects of soccer including but limited to finishing, passing and dribbling.

Prep basketball

A.L. Brown senior guard Shemya Stanback has signed with Catawba.

Stanback is 5-foot-1 but averaged 13 points and seven rebounds as a senior and brings a lot of quickness to the Indians.

Junior Legion

J.D. Basinger pitched four innings for the win, allowing one run, and Charlie Klingler had two hits in East Rowan’s 9-3 victory against West Rowan on Thursday.

East is 8-0.

Legion baseball

Mocksville plays at Rowan County tonight at 7 p.m.

Rowan is off to an  8-0 start.

Wells Fargo Cup

Salisbury won the Wells Fargo Cup for overall athletic excellence for the Central Carolina Conference.

East Davidson, West Davidson, Lexington, Thomasville and Norrth Rowan followed the Hornets.

The Hurley YMCA, Salisbury Parks and Recreation  and Fieldhouse are offering a summer basketball league.

Games are June 12-Aug. 19. Boys and girls. Ages 5-16. $15 per child.
