CONCORD – Cabarrus County will close Parking Lots 3 and 4 on Thursday and Friday at Corban Avenue and Spring Street for preconstruction work.

Drivers who park in downtown Concord are encouraged to use the county’s Parking Lot 2 next to Fifth Third Bank, between Church Street and McCachern Boulevard.

Beginning in January, the county will construct a five-story, 626-spot parking deck to meet parking demand at the courthouse. The deck will replace the two existing parking lots.

County officials expect the courthouse deck also will support growth in downtown Concord and bring evening and weekend visitors to the area, as the city’s parking deck has done.

Morris Berg Architects and project engineers Kimley-Horn received contracts for the design of the parking deck. Though the county has not yet taken bids for construction, it is included in the city’s proposed 2017-18 budget.
