Rowan County didn’t get a chance to extend its  long  winning streak in American Legion baseball on Wednesday.

Rowan’s game against Concord at Mount Pleasant High was rained out before it started.

Rowan (16-0) returns to action tonight at Newman Park against Mocksville. That game was listed as an away game on the preseason schedule, but the site has been changed.

Rowan is also home Friday when Kannapolis visits.

Prep softball

Davie County’s Sierra Ferguson was honored by the N.C. Softball Coaches Association as 4A Player of the Year for District 7, a 13-county area in the foothills and mountains.

Davie’s Olivia Boger was named 4A Pitcher of the Year for District 7.

In District 6, a nine-county area that includes Rowan, Cabarrus, Mecklenburg and Stanly, A.L. Brown’s Kelly Chrismon, Brandi Blackmon, Allie Baker, Ashlynn Stokes and Savanna Hagler were honored as 4A all-district players.

3A all-district players included eight Rowan girls — West Rowan’s Parker Greene, May Sobataka, Alexander Linder and Morgan Corriher; South Rowan’s Brooke Lowery and Mataya Reynolds, and East Rowan’s Maddie Trexler and Caroline Johnson.

Fourteen Cabarrus County SPC players  from Hickory Ridge, Central Cabarrus and Cox Mill were named all-district.

Three Gray Stone players made 1A all-district, including Maddie Hunter, a pitcher from Rockwell.

The Coaches Association will name an All-State team soon.

Wood bat leagues

Jackson Raper (Catawba) is batting .326 with 11 RBIs for the Lake Norman Copperheads of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League.

Local golf

The Country Club of Salisbury reported several recent aces.

Burl Brady and Kris Jimenez aced the No. 9 hole, while Corey Basinger made a hole-in-one on No. 6.

Youth track

Aamaiya Ijames of the Salisbury Speedsters Track Club placed  second for 10-year-olds  in the 100 meters in the AAU district qualifier in Charlotte.

Ijames was clocked in 14.25 seconds.

Ijames won the 200 meters in 28.88 seconds.

Ijames was second in the 400 meters in 1:08.45.

Ijames  will be competing in the  AAU Junior Nationals in Detroit on July 31 -Aug. 5, where she hopes to achieve All-America honors (top eight).

Ijames is ranked  nationally and is ranked No. 1 in the state in her age group in the 200. She is coached by Tim Dunlap.

In the Jim Law Invitational in Charlotte, Emberlei Pauley-Brown of the Hurley YMCA Warriors placed fourth for 11-12 girls in the 1500 in 6:05.29.

The Warriors’ Macy Miller was third i n the high jump for 11-12 girls, clearing 4 feet, 4 inches.  Connor Price ran 5:18 for fourth place in the 1500 for 11-12 boys. Triston Rabon was sixth in 5:30.  William Blais was sixth in the 800 for 9-10 boys in 2:42.41.

Legion softball

Rowan County is scheduled to play a doubleheader tonight at Carson at 6 p.m. against Cabarrus County.
