Golf: Eidson wins Rowan Masters

CHINA GROVE ó Ronnie Eidson carried home the top honors in the annual Rowan Masters Golf Tournament at the Warrior Club Sunday.
Eidson, who won the qualifying medal with a 6-under-par 66, became the new champion of the popular tournament.
And it took two wins Sunday to capture the crown.
Eidson turned back Jason Meadows 5 and 3 in the championship match after edging Richard Cobb 1-up in the semifinals Sunday morning.
Meadows advanced to the finals with a 3 and 2 win over Matt Ray in the semifinals.
Eidson and Meadows waged a close battle for the first nine holes. Eidson managed a 1-up lead.
Eidson then took a big step toward the title with four birdies during a 5-hole stretch. He birdied the ninth, 11th, 12th and 13th to grab a 5-up lead which he held the rest of the way.
Eidson becomes the third golfer to win the 6-year-old tourney.
The inaugural tourney in 2003 was won by Keith Dorsett. Gary Miller captured the event n 2004, and then Dorsett won the next three tournaments.
