EAST SPENCER — The Guiding Light Missionary Baptist Association will hold its annual Sunday School convention today beginning at 10 a.m. The host is the Rev. John E. Jones. The Guiding Light Convention Center is located at 308 Boundary St.
First Calvary Baptist Church
First Calvary Baptist Church, 400 South Long St., is celebrating its 151st homecoming this weekend with two worship services and dinner on Sunday.
The Rev. Leamon E. Brown will deliver the message at the 11 a.m. service and following the homecoming meal, the afternoon service will begin at 3 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Nathan Scovens Sr. will be the speaker.
Dr. Scovens, a native of Baltimore, Md., is pastor of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.
The Rev. Brown, host pastor, was recently recognized by the congregation for 33 years of service as pastor of First Calvary.
Jerusalem Baptist Church
Jerusalem Baptist Church will celebrate Senior Citizens Day on Sunday during the regular 11 a.m. service. All members 55 years and older will be honored with a special token. Seniors 80 years and older will be recognized with a bio-presentaiton of “This is Your Life.”
Music will be provided by a choir composed of all senior citizens. The Rev. Dr. David Bracken, senior pastor, will deliver the message. Suggested attire for men and women is black and white. Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall.
United Baptist Church
KANNAPOLIS — United Baptist Church, 3001 Clermont Ave., will host the Rev. Kami Alford as a speaker during its 11 a.m. service on Sunday. Rev. Alford is an ordained minster and youth leader at Christ Fellowship Ministries in Asheboro. She has served in ministry for 11 years, serving as an armor bearer and preaching her initial sermon in 2009.
Host pastor is the Rev. John Jones.
Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist
Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist Church, 704 Old Concord Road, will hold its annual homecoming and revival services starting Sunday at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will the the Rev. Reginald McConaughey, pastor of God’s Tabernacle for Believers of Rockwell. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.
Revival servcies will take place Monday, July 24 through Friday, July 28 at 7 p.m. nightly. The preacher for the week will be Elder Timothy Lyons, pastor of St. John’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in Charlotte.
Host pastor is the Rev. Clarence E Marlin.
Friendship Missionary Baptist
COOLEEMEE — Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 157 Neely Road, will observe its annual homecoming and church anniversary, Sunday at 3 p.m.
Guest speaker for the evening service will be the Rev. Ervin L. Hannah, pastor of Erwin Temple CME Church in Woodleaf.
The annual Summer Revival will begin Tuesday, July 25, and will last through Thursday, July 27 at 7 p.m. nightly.
Guest speakers are: Tuesday, Dr. Timothy Williams of Yadkin star Baptist Church in Lexington;
Wednesday, Dr. Robert McGowen of Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte;
Thursday, the Rev. Patrick Jones of New Zion Baptist Church in Dunn’s Mountain.
Mt. Vernon Presbyterian
WOODLEAF — Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church, 435 Carson Road, will observe Women’s Day on Sunday during the 11 a.m. service. Zakiya Smyre of Cleveland will be the speaker. Zakiya is a student at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. She has participated with mission projects both nationally and internationally.
Deanna and Desirae will provide special music during the service. Sarah Sharpe is the moderator of Presbyterian Women at Mt. Vernon. Refreshments will be served following the worship service. Rev. Otto Gaither is currently serving as pastor of Mt. Vernon.
St. Mark’s Lutheran
CHINA GROVE — St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 326 N Main St., will host an organ recital by Laura Agner on Sunday at 4 p.m. She will perform works by Felix Mendelssohn, Marcel Dupré, J. S. Bach, Francois Couperin, Ned Rorem and Sigfrid Karg-Elert.
Laura is a rising sophomore at Salem College, majoring in organ performance, with a specialization in Dr. Lister-Sink’s Injury-Preventive Keyboard Technique Certificate. Before organ, Laura studied piano with Mrs. Tina Brown for ten years. Her former organ teacher was Dr. Jacqueline Yost. Laura currently studies with Dr. Timothy Olsen, organ professor at Salem College and UNC-School of the Arts. She also attended UNC-School of the Arts for her final two years of high school.
Laura has participated in the UNCSA high school organists competition for three consecutive years. She has participated in the East Carolina University high school organists competition, earning both third place and second place. Call 704-857-2092 for more information.
Matthew Weaver and The Gospel Voices Band
First Baptist Church of Salisbury will host Matthew Weaver and The Gospel Voices Band in concert on Sunday July 30 at 6 p.m. This will be a free concert with a love offering being taken. The concert will be in the Family Ministry Center.
Dorsett Chapel Missionary Day
SPENCER — The Missionaries of Dorsett Chapel UCC will observe their anniversary “Fulfilling A Mission As We Move forward, on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Guest speaker will be the rev. Dr. Amy Susong. Dr. Susong holds an undergraduate degree from AT&T State University in Greensboro, and a masters degree from Pfeiffer University. She completed her doctorate of Business through the University of Phoenix in Arizona. She is currently an assistant professor of business at Livingstone College.
Dr. Susong is an associate minister at Dorsett Chapel. Rev. Rick Galloway is host pastor.
Four Gospel Program at Moore’s Chapel
CLEVELAND — Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 5890 South River Church Road, at the corners of South River Church Road, Cool Springs Road and Church Road, will hold its Four Gospel Program on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Rev. Eddie L. Fortson is host pastor.

Mt. Mitchell UMC’s hotdog sale is back for the fourth Wednesday of each month. Eat in or take out on July 26 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Delivery can be provided for orders of six or more.
