The Miss Rowan County Veteran competition is part of the Faith Fourth of July festivities. These young women represent veterans organizations and will ride in the Faith Fourth of July parade.

After the parade, Miss Rowan County Veteran will be crowned.

Contestants are:

• Carlee Rae Lowry represents Livengood Peeler Wood Post 448. A resident of Salisbury, she is the daughter of Scott and Boni Lowry. She is a rising senior at East Rowan High School. She hopes to become a P.E. teacher and coach and is also interested in mission work.

• Makayla Lynn Eagle represents Faith Legion Post 327. A resident of Gold Hill, she is the daughter of David and Regina Eagle. She is a rising senior at East Rowan High School and active in many clubs. She hopes to pursue a nursing degree. She enjoys animals, volunteering at the Hefner VA Medical Center, ministries and playing sports.

• Andrea Olvera represents Post 185. A resident of Kannapolis, she is the daughter of Odilon Olvera and Blanca Gonzalez. She is a rising senior at South Rowan High School. She plans to join the military and become a nurse. She has also won multiple awards for her achievements.

• Morgen Star Ridenhour represents VFW Post 9134. A resident of Rockwell, she is the daughter of A.J. and Dawn Hendry. She is a rising senior at East Rowan High School and a member of several clubs there. She plans to go to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to study nursing. She works part time at Dan Nicholas Park and is a member of the East Rowan Honors Chorus.

• Amy Margaret Taylor represents AMVETS Post 565. A resident of China Grove, she is the daughter of Ben and Angie Taylor. She is a rising junior at Jesse Carson High School. She plans to attend N.C. State University for a large animal equine degree. She has been elected historian of Future Farmers of American for her junior year and is a member of the U.S. Pony Club.

• Ricki Alana Goodman represents Kennedy Hall American Legion Post 106. A resident of Salisbury, she is the daughter of Tim and Sonda Goodman. She is a 2017 graduate of Jesse Carson High School. She plans to attend Rowan-Cabarrus Community College to become a radiologist. She has been involved with many charitable causes and was an honors student.

• Madison Kaye Hunter represents AMVETS Post 845. She is the daughter of Jonathan and Dawn Hunter. She is a 2017 graduate of Gray Stone Day School. She plans to attend Catawba College on a softball and academic scholarship. She has been involved in multiple clubs and has volunteered at Novant Rowan Medical Center.

• Emma Ritchie represents 40/8 Voitures. A resident of Rockwell, she is the daughter of Craig and Tracy Ritchie. She is a sophomore at UNC-Charlotte. She plans to become a pediatric occupational therapist after finishing college. She is a member of many clubs and a volunteer with several organizations including Operation Christmas Child and Special Olympics.

• Laura Caroline Johnson represents American Legion Harold B. Jarrett Post 342. A resident of Rockwell, she is the daughter of Craig and Lynne Johnson. She is a rising senior at East Rowan High School. She plans to major in social work at a four-year university. She is involved in softball and volleyball, volunteering at local organizations, and photography.

• Honesty Carter represents J.C. Price Post 107. She is the daughter of Leala Carter and is a rising junior at West Rowan High School and a Crosby Scholar. She hopes to become an anesthesiologist. She is involved in the Student Government Association and volunteers at Elevation Church in Charlotte.
