Happy campersTuesday’s article about the Arc/Rowan almost having to cancel a summer camp program because of gas costs offered another example of how rising fuel prices are affecting many lives ó and how generous benefactors in Rowan County always seem to come to the rescue in an emergency. Thanks to contributions from Food Lion’s Charitable Foundation, the United Way’s Community Chest Fund and the Rowan-Salisbury School System’s Exceptional Children’s program, the summer camp will continue. That staved off a lot of disappointment for the handicapped children who participate in the United Way Agency’s seven-week program, as well as the parents and guardians who’d have been left scrambling to try to make substitute arrangements. No matter how diligently you plan for hardship, unforeseen crises occur, and in these troubled economic times, we’re seeing more than our usual share. Thanks to the organizations and individuals who go the extra mile to provide a helping hand for others.
