Golf: Shuping moves up in Eastern Amateur

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Logan Shuping shot 3-under 67 in the third round of the 61st Eastern Amateur at Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club on Saturday.
Shuping, a former East Rowan standout who is a rising sophomore at East Carolina University, turned in a steady round with three birdies and 15 pars. His third birdie of the day came on No. 18.
Shuping shot 68 and 70 the first two rounds and has moved up to a tie for 16th. In the tournament, he’s made 10 birdies, 39 pars and five bogeys.
Radford University golfer Myles Creighton shot a 3-under-par 67 on Saturday for a two-shot lead entering today’s final round. He’s 13-under.

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. — Eric Edwards shot 5-over 77 in the third round of the 103rd Carolinas Amateur Championship at The Golf Club at Briar’s Creek.
Edwards shot 40-37 — 77. He had a double bogey on the par-3 No. 2 hole. He made two birdies on the back nine to help offset three birdies.
A former Salisbury High star who has turned in an outstanding career at George Mason University, Edwards shot 68 and 69 in the first two rounds. He’s tied for ninth heading into today’s final round. He’ll tee off on No. 1 today at 8:47 a.m.
UAB golfer Julian Keur, who won the 45th South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship last month, continues to set a record pace. He shot 69 on Saturday and is 16-under. He’s made 18 birdies and an eagle while carding only four bogeys.
