SALISBURY — The Salvation Army Family Store on Jake Alexander Boulevard West is urgently seeking clothing donations for all genders and ages.
Sarah McGlamery, a manager at the store, said many are helped through the Salvation Army’s efforts.
“People in our community can come here if they’ve had a fire. Battered women, if they have any kind of emergency, they get to come in,” she said. “The church sends them over and they get to get clothes, furniture, beds, things like that. We help with all of that.”
Wardrobe assistance to those in crisis is provided free of charge, with each individual receiving an allotted number of shoes, socks, underwear, tops and bottoms. The store is seeking donations to continue this service.
“We’re actually looking for all types of clothing,” McGlamery said, “because we do serve both families and singles.”
Clothing and shoes in any condition can be dropped off at the store. Clothing in poor condition is accepted for salvage, with monetary proceeds used for local programs and services.
Besides wardrobe assistance, the Salvation Army provides those in crisis with food, rent and utility aid. Proceeds also help send children to summer camp at Camp Walter Johnson.
Camp Walter Johnson is in Denton, bordering High Rock Lake and offering a week of water-themed activities such as paddle boating, canoeing and swimming in the camp’s pool.
Daisy Cline, a member of The Salvation Army’s Disaster Team for Salisbury and a Camp Walter Johnson volunteer, says the camp offers children a chance to learn about the Bible and the Salvation Army alongside these fun activities. But that’s not all.
“Good Christian people are there with them helping teach them and taking care of them,” said Cline. “They have good clean fun.”
Donations of all sorts excluding baby toys and TVs can be dropped off at 521 Jake Alexander Blvd. W. For more information regarding needs and drop-off hours, call the Family Store at 704-636-7587.
