SALISBURY — Rowan County authorities say a Salisbury woman used personal checks for a closed bank account to make deposits into a legitimate account.
Officials said she used a closed F&M Bank account.
Kelly Renee Leach 25, of the 200 block of Morlan Park Road, was charged with one count of felony obtaining property by false pretenses and five counts of fraud/receiving money improperly.
According to a report, Leach made a deposit into her personal account at ATMs on Avalon Drive and Jake Alexander Boulevard. She is accused of making multiple transactions and receiving cash at Walmart.
Officials said the account had a minimal balance before she began depositing bad checks into it. She made 21 deposits with bad checks.
A report said deposits of $200 each totaled $4,200 and withdrawals of $1,000 were made from ATMs.
Leach received $1,500 from Walmart and, on another occasion, she received $201.38 from Food Lion, officials said.
Leach was released from the Rowan County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
