On May 18, Michael Chapman explained to the readers of the Post the difference in Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day.

During the 4th of July, Richard Brisbin explained to the readers and the town of Faith how to count an annual event as compared to a birthday.

Last week Clyde explained to the readers and Salisbury City how to get the right date on their flag.

All three used common sense for their explanations and not scripture. They didn’t generate much feedback.

On July 20 Dan Nicholas Park placed a 3×5 ad for all Rowan County Parks on page 5B.

The ad started with the word, “enjoy.” To me that means, “exhaling nicotine jeopardizes our young ones.”

How can anyone enjoy “Dan Nicotine Park” as long as smoking is not only allowed but also encouraged there?

The ad finished with, “Be an original.” What does that mean?

Does it mean Rowan County Parks hired a director with a degree in textiles and no recreation?

Does it mean you can sit just about anywhere in the park and smoke and have your personal butt-can?

Does it mean tobacco needs to be banned but the director can’t see how it can be enforced and the nature center supervisors hands are tied?

Does it mean the County Commissioners and the Health Dept. and everyone else that could and should stop is stupid or just “don’t care?”

Or does it mean that parents/grandparents, church people, youth leaders and pillars of the community have a next-door neighbor who’s brother-in-law’s third cousin has a dog-groomer whose sister is married to a social worker that knows someone in Rowan County politics?

Or is it they just “can’t get involved?”

That’s pretty darn original.

Now I would like to thank Michael, Richard, and Clyde for using common sense and understanding the difference between right and wrong.
