Suit preference signal

At a tournament mini class I attended, this suit preference signal system was outlined and suggested for use. Some players discount this method but others use it regularly. Here is the outline of this system. When you can’t follow suit you can make your sluffs informative. A sluff of a high card in another suit indicates a suit you like and want it returned ASAP. If no high card available, then an Odd card suggests a preference for that suit. Your sluff of a High Even card suggests a return of the higher of the outside suits, while a Low Even card sluff suggests a return of the lower of the outside suits. As always be sure to work with your partner and practice this method to avoid disasters.

What a week! Once again it took a village to hold our Friday July 28 th game. Dick was at a tournament, I was still recovering from surgery, and Ron, who was to direct the Friday game was in the ER with breathing problems. Shirley, Ron’s wife, insisted she come with the boards and over- see the game. I agreed to come to Rufty to hold the game if Ron needed her at the ER. John went to Rufty and got out the supplies and arranged the room. Since there would be no computer or Bridgemates, we decided to use travelers for scoring. These were brought to me and I scored the game after the fact. We had our game without further incident. Winning this game: 1st Fred Bachl and Wade Lowder, 2nd Rosemary Sokolowski and Joy Hamilton, 3rd Genny Mozolak and Joe O’Brien, 4th Billie and John Nordan.
