Ernest Moss (North Rowan) has been named head track and field and cross country coach at Virginia State.
Moss was most recently an assistant at Davidson for four seasons, working primarily with sprint, hurdles and field events.
Moss coached three Southern Conference champions at Davidson and 17 of his athletes broke school records.
Prior to joining the Davidson staff, Moss was an assistant coach at Lafayette and Lehigh.
Moss graduated from Western Carolina in 2000 and earned a masters from Sacred Heart University in 2002.
Moss began coaching with the Durham Striders and Rowan Express track teams.
While competing at North Rowan, he finished fifth in the triple jump in the 1993 state track meet.
In 1994, he placed second in the triple jump in the 2A state meet and helped North’s track team win a state title in the first year of separate 2A competition.
Moss replaces Les Young, who recently resigned.
n Football camp
Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department’s Hall Gym on West Bank Street will be the host for a football camp, Aug. 11-15.
Camp is from 9-1 daily and is geared to teach football basics to ages 7-13.
Registration fees are $40 for city residents and $80 per player for non-residents and registration can be completed at Hall Gym.

n Crede on rehab
Chicago White Sox third baseman Joe Crede is joining the Charlotte Knights on a rehab assignment through Sunday.
n Intimidators fall
The Kannapolis Intimidators lost to Delmarva 4-3 in 10 innings on Friday to finish up a road trip.
Kannapolis (17-21) led 3-1 going to the ninth inning. Sergio Morales homered, and Sergio Miranda had a two-run single for the Intimidators, who return to play Hagerstown tonight.
n Rowan fall ball
Rowan Little League is currently taking signups through Aug. 16 at Godley’s Garden Center for its fall Baseball and Girls Softball leagues.
Online registrations are accepted at http://www.eteamz.com/rowanlittleleague.
Fall ball is for ages 5-14. Cost is $30. Ages are as of April 30, 2009, and games begin after Labor Day.

n Spencer fall ball
Spencer Little League is registering for fall baseball and girls softball at the Spencer Little League ballfield on 8th Street in Spencer.
Register today from 9am-2pm; Friday, Aug. 8, from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 9, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Coach pitch, junior, major and minor baseball, as well as girls softball leagues will be offered for ages 5-14. The registration fee is $30.
League play will begin the first week in September.

n East Rowan fall ball
East Rowan Little League fall baseball and softball signups are this Sunday, from 2-4 p.m. at Faith Picnic Shelter behind Faith School.
Cost is $30 per player.
Divisions include coach pitch, minors, majors and juniors (no T-ball division).
Parents can also obtain a registration form at www.erll.org and mail in their registration. Registration deadline is Aug. 8.

n Ealy promoted
Appalachian State’s men’s basketball program has elevated Josh Ealy to assistant coach.
Ealy, who played at Tusculum, spent last season as grad assistant on the ASU staff.
Ealy replaces Ahmad Smith.
n More Cyclones baseball
Hunter Travis, Michael Morrison, Cole Faulk, Alex Shumaker and Spencer Clayton are additional members of the Cyclones 10-under baseball team that won six tournament championships, had two runner-up finishes and was crowned 10UAAA points champion.
Kut-Rite Lawn Care and The Mulch Yard sponsored the Cyclones.
n Carson athletics
Carson is selling reserved seats for the 2008 football season.
Anyone wanting to renew seats from last year may do so Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m.
Seats not renewed by Aug. 5 will be sold along with other seats Wednesday-Friday from 11-1 and 4-6.
