CHINA GROVE — More new houses are planned for the Miller’s Grove subdivision after Phase 2 of its development received approval from the town last week.

The second phase includes 51 lots, bringing the total number of possible houses in the development to more than 100.

Earlier this year, China Grove approved Phase 1B of the development, and builder Wade Jurney Homes has already built houses in Phase 1A.

Initially proposed before the 2008 recession, sales in Miller’s Grove started slowly. Shea Homes was the previous builder. With an improved economy, home sales in the neighborhood picked up. In the previous month, for example, 10 of the 24 lots in Phase 1B have been sold, said developer Gary Knox.

Knox said construction in the second phase will be more involved than the prior two. Streets and other infrastructure are needed.

Town Planner Franklin Gover said it will be like “starting from scratch.”

Gover and Knox said more approvals are needed before construction can start.

Asked about the subdivision, China Grove Mayor Lee Withers said he’s glad to see new homes being built in town.

“As with anything, new home starts are always a positive,” Withers said. “New home sales are good, and new development is good.”
