Elizabeth Brooke Johnson of Salisbury and Mr. Edward Edgerton Smith of Raleigh were united in marriage Saturday, July 29, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi Chapel, Spring Island, S.C. Dr. Randal Vance Kirby officiated the 12 noon ceremony, which was followed by a reception at The River House on Spring Island.

The bride was escorted by her father, Dr. Atlee Rollins Johnson III. Her maids of honor were her sisters, Alee Sharp and Ann Rollins Johnson, and Elizabeth Scothern Marlowe. Her bridesmaids included Madeline Elizabeth Gregg of New York; Kathryn Murphy Horn, Kimberly Blair Landen and Melanie Tina Jessica Reyer all of Charlotte; Kathryn Fox Mayfield of Jackson, Miss. and Emily Parks Northington, Katherine Allison Smith, the groom’s sister, and Ashton McKee Wainwright, all of Raleigh.

The groom’s best men were his father, Alton Battle Smith Jr. and brother, Alton Battle Smith III. Standing as groomsmen were Robert Alexander Carson III of Oxford, Miss.; David Laurence Goodyear Dossett of Dana Point, Calif.; James Zollie Foster of Atlanta, Ga.; Joseph Bartlett Graves of Tunica, Miss.; Jack Clinkscales Huddle of New Bern; Henry Matthews Kidd Jr. of Chapel Hill; Matthew Stevens Majure and Woodburn McNeil Williams of Washington, D.C.; Mark Spencer Oakley of Memphis, Tenn.; Charles Scott Owen and Thomas Anthony Saieed III, both of Raleigh; and Luke Michael Vande Guchte of New York. The groom’s ushers were Eric Carson Chandler and William Kavanaugh Echols, both of Birmingham; Preston Alan Dunaway of Memphis, Tenn.; and John Charles Mikels of Raleigh.

The flower girl was the bride’s cousin, Lillian Wade Johnson of Smithfield. The ring bearer was William Suggs Harvey IV of Beaufort. Readers were Martha Rebecca Hobson of Dallas and Katherine Campbell Huddle of New Bern, cousins of the bride and groom, respectively. The program attendants were Elizabeth Hewett Johnson and Jane Ivey Johnson of Smithfield, also cousins of the bride.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Atlee Rollins Johnson III of Salisbury, and the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. Jack B. Hobson of Charlotte and Mr. and Mrs. Atlee Rollins Johnson Jr. of Smithfield. A graduate of Salisbury High School, Brooke received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from Wingate University.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Battle Smith Jr. of Raleigh. He is the grandson of Mrs. Alton Battle Smith and the late Mr. Alton Battle Smith and Mrs. Jack Pearson Huddle and the late Mr. Jack Pearson Huddle. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a double major in Banking and Finance and Managerial Finance. He is an Assistant Vice President of Commercial Real Estate with SunTrust Bank in Charlotte.

Following a wedding trip to the British Virgin Islands the couple will be at home in Charlotte.
