Chef with local connection on Food Network tonight

A Charleston, S.C., chef with a Salisbury connection will be among the competitors on the Food Network’s “Great Food Truck Race,” starting at 9 p.m. tonight.

Nick Hunter met Brynn Abernathy from Salisbury in culinary school, and they both graduated from Johnson & Wales University. They married and have two daughters. Brynn, the daughter of Karen and Paul Brown and David and Pam Abernathy of Salisbury, went on to work for the Pepper law firm in Charleston.

Nick and two of his buddies make up a team called Braised in the South that will compete against six other teams of food truck novices. The grand prize is $50,000.

Other Braised in the South members are Steven Klatt and Brandon Lapp. The three met while working the line in a restaurant together

 

The show is hosted by Tyler Florence and takes the form of a road trip from New Orleans to Savannah. The trip is full of beautiful scenery, southern landmarks and intense food challenges.

The winner will be named in the season finale on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 9 p.m.
