CHINA GROVE – N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will soon begin replacing the Pine Ridge Road bridge that crosses Interstate 85 in China Grove.

“The original bridge was built in 1967, and its design no longer meets the demands of the traffic using it,” said Christopher Fine, senior assistant resident engineer.

The portion of road will be closed from Tuesday until work is complete by June.

Motorists will be able to use U.S. 29 and Lentz Road to detour around the closure.

The work is part of the I-85 Corridor Improvement Project in Rowan and Cabarrus counties, said Pay Ivey, DOT Division 9 engineer.

DOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
