Hairston Funeral Home continues its community education and awareness series

The topics for the upcoming event are Medicare/Life and Health Plans: “Understanding Your Options” and The Importance of Pre-Need Planning: “Taking Care of Your Family Before the Need Arises.”

The presentation will be held on Monday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home, which is located at 703 S. Main St. The presenters for the event are Darnette Porter, a licensed insurance agent, and Juanita Miller, the funeral director/manager of Hairston Funeral Home Inc.

Cabarrus Regional Chamber announces 2018 Leadership Cabarrus class

The Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce has announced the 24 participants in the 2018 Class of Leadership Cabarrus. The civic leadership program, sponsored by Duke Energy, is designed for experienced business and community leaders to educate and enhance the awareness of the assets, resources and needs within the Cabarrus County region.

Through a series of monthly classes from September through May, members are introduced to and examine how leadership in the historical, geographical, educational, economic, governmental and cultural segments work together to perpetuate and advance Cabarrus County and its citizens. Additionally, the class works together to produce a legacy service project that benefits the community.

“Leadership Cabarrus is a pillar of our chamber, and we couldn’t be prouder of the program, the wonderful volunteers, the pilot, the steering committee and the class participants,” said Barbi Jones, Cabarrus Regional Chamber executive director. “Our graduates are always amazed at the depth of community knowledge they amass, along with professional and personal connections.”

Duke Energy is the title sponsor for Leadership Cabarrus.

“Duke is proud of the communities we serve, and we are happy to invest in the Cabarrus Regional Chamber and this meaningful program that develops our communities’ and businesses’ future leaders,” said Randy Welch, Duke Energy district manager for government and community relations.

Leadership Cabarrus will kick off the year with a team-building retreat later this month and the monthly meetings will begin in September.

The program is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and has over 400 alumni since its inception.

Comfort Keepers is holding a job fair at the J.F. Hurley YMCA on Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 8 a.m. to noon. The company is seeking CNAs and personal care assistants.

Comfort Keepers offers in-home senior care in Rowan County and surrounding areas.

 

Go-Forth Pest Control makes Inc. 5,000 list

Every year, Inc. Magazine releases a list of the fastest growing businesses in the country. Go-Forth Pest Control of High Point was ranked No. 3,914.

The Triad-based company, which has branches across the middle of the state, has also been recognized by other sources, including having one of its employees being named the N.C. Statewide Technician seven times.

Go-Forth Pest Control was founded in 1959 and has since spread its operations to Greensboro, High Point, Lake Norman, Raleigh, Charlotte, Salisbury, Winston-Salem, Lexington and Asheboro. It was founded by Frank Goforth and is now owned by its third generation, local residents Chase and Leah Hazelwood.
