KANNAPOLIS — The city of Kannapolis is offering façade and site improvement grants to businesses and property owners on Cannon Boulevard, Main Street, Jackson Park Road, Lane Street and Dale Earnhardt Boulevard. City leaders recognize this area as a key gateway to those who travel to Kannapolis as well as those who live and work on Cannon Boulevard.
The façade and site improvement grant will aid the city and property owners as everyone works together to maximize the appearance of the boulevard as well as promote the services and products offered at the businesses along this busy corridor.
“This is a win-win program,” said City Manager Mike Legg. “This is a way to provide some assistance to our small businesses that are putting forth an effort to reinvest in their property, while also making our busiest corridors more attractive.”
The grants will cover items such as landscaping, exterior painting, installation of awnings, canopies or shutters, windows, lighting, doors, fencing, sidewalks, parking lot improvements, signage and roofs.
Grant applications are due Sept. 29. The city provides a matching grant for up to 50 percent of the total project cost. The total budget to be distributed amongst the grantees is $20,000.
The grants are part of a larger plan by the city for additional improvements which calls for landscaped medians, wayfinding and gateway signage, and addressing code enforcement issues.
