Bernhardt – Aldridge
Jennifer Brooke Bernhardt and Lee Nicholas Aldridge were united in marriage Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at six oíclock in the evening at St. Paulís Lutheran Church. The Rev. William Ketchie officiated the ceremony, which was followed by dinner and dancing at the Salisbury Depot hosted by the brideís parents.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Howard Bernhardt of Salisbury. She is the granddaughter of Mr. Howard Parks Bernhardt and the late Mrs. Ruth Lingle Bernhardt of Salisbury; and Mr. Dewey Ray Morgan, Sr. and the late Mrs. Jane Swicegood Morgan of Salisbury.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Aldridge of Wingate and the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Cash of Monroe and the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lee Aldridge, Jr., of Marshville.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. The brideís sister, Miss Melissa Bernhardt of Charleston, S.C., was her maid of honor. Her bridesmaids included Mrs. Sara Lang and Miss Julie Morgan of Salisbury, Miss Megan Lybrand of Lincoln, Nebr., and Miss Ginger Richter of Raleigh. Miss Jenna Fisher of Mooresville and Miss Alexa Brice of Candler served as flower girls.
The groomís father served as his best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Alex Aldridge of Wingate, brother of the groom; Mr. Blake Aldridge of Bristol, Conn., twin brother of the groom; Lieutenant Josh Lowery of Jacksonville, Fla.; and Mr. Jason Walker of Monroe. Ushers were Mr. Michael Bennett and Mr. Kevin Byrum of Wingate; and Mr. Kevin Moore of Monroe. Master Patrick Holden of Mooresville served as ring bearer.
The scripture was read by Mrs. Ashley Fisher of Mooresville. Music was provided by soloist John Brock of Winston-Salem and organist Kelly Newsome of Lexington. Miss Lauren Fisher of Greensboro served as program attendant, and Mrs. Ciji Fisher of Durham served as register attendant. Mrs. Cathy Eller and Mrs. Vicki Staton, both of Salisbury, were wedding directors.
The bride is a 1999 honor graduate of East Rowan High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2003. She also graduated summa cum laude from the 14-month Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at UNC Chapel Hill in 2007. A member of the Nursing Honors Society Sigma Theta Tau, Jennifer is currently a registered nurse at UNC Healthcare.
The groom is a 2000 graduate of Forest Hills High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from Wingate University in 2004. He is the Baseball Operations/Assistant Director of Internet Operations for Duke University Athletics Department.
Following a honeymoon to Jamaica, the couple will live in Durham.

On April 19, a bridal shower was hosted at the home of Mrs. Lori Bernhardt, the brideís mother. Hostesses were cousins of the bride Mrs. Ashley Fisher, Mrs. Mandy Holden, Mrs. Ciji Fisher and Miss Lauren Fisher. Special guests attending were Miss Melissa Bernhardt, sister of the bride of Charleston, S.C., and Mrs. Kathy Aldridge, mother of the groom of Wingate.
On June 7, 2008, a bridal shower was hosted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Morgan, aunt and uncle of the bride. Hostesses were aunt of the bride Mrs. Gail Morgan and cousins of the bride Mrs. Jaime Klinger and Mrs. Beverly Morgan. A family cookout was held afterward.
On June 28, a bridal luncheon was hosted at Spiroís Hilltop Bistro in Monroe. Hostesses were cousin of the groom Ms. Ann Medlin and aunt of the groom Mrs. Karen Gaddy. Jennifer was presented with recipes, many of them being the groomís favorites. Special guests attending were Miss Melissa Bernhardt, sister of the bride, Mrs. Lori Bernhardt, mother of the bride, and Miss Lauren Fisher, cousin of the bride.
On June 29, a bridal shower was hosted at Wingate Baptist Church in Wingate. Hostesses were longtime friends of the groomís family: Mrs. Ann Thomas, Mrs. Adele Willard, Mrs. Betty Byrd, Mrs. Emily Lowery and Mrs. Barbara Morgan.
On July 19, a bachelorette party was hosted by Miss Melissa Bernhardt at the coupleís new home in Durham.
On Aug. 1-2, a bachelor party was hosted by Mr. Alex and Blake Aldridge, brothers of the groom. The groom and his friends especially enjoyed a Durham Bulls game on Friday.
The day before the wedding, a bridesmaids luncheon was hosted by Mrs. Belinda Cozart, aunt of the bride of Mooresville, and Mrs. Susan Bernhardt of Salisbury at the Tea Room at Caniche. The evening before the wedding, the groomís parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at The Heritage Room in Salisbury.
Cole – Wilson
Audrey Beaver of Landis and Glenn Cole of Winchester, Tenn., are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Amy Lynn Cole, to William Dustin Wilson, both of Kingsland, Ga.
Amy is the granddaughter of Melvin and Edna Cole of Granite Quarry and Jane Trexler of Gold Hill. She is a 2001 graduate of East Rowan High School.
Dustin is the son of William and Pansy Wilson of Hagan, Ga., and the grandson of Joyce Vause of Midway, Ga. and the late Nell and Virgil Deloach. A 2002 graduate of Claxton High School, Dustin is a U.S. Navy Seabee.
The wedding is Oct. 18 at Historic Gold Hill Park.
Corriher 25th Anniversary
Kurt and Alicia Corriher celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at a surprise party given by their children and friends on Aug, 1, 2008, at Mount Zion United Church of Christ in China Grove.
The couple was married in Macon, Ga., July 2, 1983, and moved to Kurtís hometown of China Grove a year later. Alicia is originally from St. Andrew, Jamaica. Other than living in Germany between 1987 and 1989, where their first child was born, they have lived in Rowan County since 1984.
Among his other duties, Kurt is Director of the Center for International Studies and Professor of German at Catawba College. He holds a Ph.D. in German Literature and a Master of Fine Arts in Acting. He is Artistic Director of the St. Thomas Players, drama troupe of Center for Faith and the Arts in Salisbury. He is a professional actor and the author of the novel iSomeone to Kill.î
Aliciaís main jobs are as wife and mother. She is also an interpreter in the Hispanic community, a substitute librarian for the Rowan Public Library, a substitute teacher and President of the PTSA at South Rowan High School.
Kurt and Alicia are the proud parents of Maria Lorene, 19, and Adam Clark, 15, both musicians, both sophomores (at Davidson College and South Rowan High respectively) and both blessings to their parents.
The couple is also blessed to have had friends and family members who came to help them celebrate, including Ramon Ziadie from Los Angeles, Calif., Holly Maguire from Chapel Hill and Lewis Fuller from Atlanta, Ga. The presence of family and friends from far and near was greatly appreciated.
Hennie – Flynn
Dr. and Mrs. Timothy James Hennie of Salisbury are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jill Marie Hennie, to Bernard King Flynn, Jr., of Wilmington.
The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Darmstadt of Arlington Heights, Ill., Kenneth Hennie of Mentor, Ohio, and the late Evelyn Hennie of Salisbury. Jill graduated from Bishop McGuinness Memorial High School in Winston-Salem and went on to earn her bachelorís degree in Interior Design from High Point University. She is the manager of the design showroom A. Hoke Limited in Raleigh.
The future groom is the son of Bernard King Flynn, Sr. and Glenda Flynn of Wilmington and the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Simpson of Fredericksburg, Va. iBudî graduated from E.A. Laney High School in Wilmington and attended Cape Fear Community College. He is a superintendent with Balfour Beatty Commercial Construction Company in Raleigh.
Bud proposed to Jill in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The wedding will be held at the Basilica of St. Lawrence in Asheville on Oct. 4.
Imes 1st Anniversary
KANNAPOLIS ó Meika Ivory Toppings and Austin Leonard Imes of Winston-Salem were united in marriage Aug. 11, 2007, at The Lakes with the Rev. James Clement officiating.
The bride was escorted by her brother, Macio Selby. Maid of honor was Bobbi Taylor, and bridesmaids were Roshonda Imes and sisters of the groom Tara Imes and Erica Imes.
Lawrence Ross of South Carolina was best man. Groomsmen were cousin of the bride Charles Burnon, Preston Jones and Macio Selby.
The bride is the daughter of Libby and the late Michael Toppings of Salisbury and the granddaughter of Mary Toppings of Brooklyn, N.Y., and the late Dorothy and Roy Twitty. A graduate of Salisbury High School, Meika received a Bachelorís degree in Business Management and Finance from Winston-Salem State University in 2007, graduating magna cum laude. She was also a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi.
The groom is the son of Arlene Imes and Melvin Imes of Salisbury and the grandson of Bertie Hoyle and Ernest Hoyle of Salisbury and L.D. and the late Thomas Imes of Cleveland. A graduate of Salisbury High School, Austin received a Bachelorís degree in Electronic Computer Technology in 2005 from North Carolina A&T State University, graduating cum laude. He is employed by Dell Inc.
The couple have an eight-month-old son and are expecting their second child in December. They are living in Winston-Salem.
Johnston – Overcash
David and Teresa Johnston of Salisbury are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Heather Elizabeth Johnston, to Derek Michael Overcash, also of Salisbury.
The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Johnny and Faye Troutman of Gold Hill, Carolyn Wagner of Salisbury and the late Julian Johnston of Salisbury. A 2004 graduate of North Rowan High School, Heather received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 2008, graduating with honors. She is a registered nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
The future groom is the son of Timothy and Donna Overcash and the grandson of Charles and Ruth McSwain, Clyde Overcash and the late Betty Overcash, all of Salisbury. A 2004 graduate of North Rowan High School, Derek received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from North Carolina State University in 2008.
The wedding is Oct. 4 at Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on the campus of Catawba College.
Lee – Walker
CONCORD óKristin Hope Lee and Michael Joseph Walker were united in marriage Aug. 9, 2008, at Concord First Assembly Church.
The Rev. Lawrence L. Lee Jr., grandfather of the bride, and the Rev. Randall S. Rogers, uncle of the bride of Clayton, officiated the 3:00 p.m. ceremony, which was followed by a reception.
The bride was escorted by her brother, Mr. Brandon Lee of Virginia Beach, Va. Her maid of honor was her sister, Miss Andrea Lee of Salisbury. Her bridesmaids were Mrs. Julia Lee, sister-in-law of the bride of Virginia Beach, Va.; Miss Amber Walker, sister of the groom of Wake Forest; Miss Melissa Eller, cousin of the bride of Salisbury; and Miss Hannah Sipes, cousin of the bride of Lincolnton. The flower girl was Miss Anna Harvey, cousin of the bride of Clayton.
Mr. Michael Walker, father of the groom, was best man. Groomsmen included Mr. Brandon Lee, brother of the bride of Virginia Beach, Va.; Mr. Traver Wilson, cousin of the bride of Boone; Mr. David OíConnor of Fuquay-Varina; and Mr. Craig Connor of Wake Forest. The ring bearer was Master Camden Miller, cousin of the bride of Faith.
Serving as guest registrar was Miss Jessica Sipes, cousin of the bride of Lincolnton. Soloists were Miss Ashley DeCelle of Salisbury and Dr. Christine Rogers, aunt of the bride of Clayton, who also provided music for the ceremony. Wedding director was Mrs. Dina Sosa of Concord. Soloist for the reception was Mrs. Linda Lee, aunt of the bride of Kannapolis.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Debbie Lee of Salisbury and the late Mr. Larry Lee. She is the granddaughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Lawrence L. Lee, Jr. of Salisbury, Mrs. Joan Greer of Lenoir and the late Weston Claude Minton of Lander, Wy. She is the great-granddaughter Mrs. Blanche Minton of Vilas. A 2005 graduate of First Assembly Christian School, where she was a member of the Beta Club, Kristin is also recipient of the Girl Scout Gold Award. She will graduate from Appalachian State University in December with a degree in Middle School Education with double concentration in History and English. A deanís list student and member of the Gamma Beta Phi, Kristin is employed at Marshalls.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Walker of Knightdale and the grandson of Mrs. Alice Sullivan and the late Thomas Sullivan of Raleigh. A 2004 graduate of East Wake High School, Michael is continuing his studies at Appalachian State University. A member of the National Guard, he is training for the Special Forces Unit and is employed at Loweís Food.
Kristin and Michael honeymooned at Paradisus Punta Cana Resort in Dominican Republic. They will make their home in Todd.
Martz Pageant Winner
Lauren Ashley Martz, daughter of Steve and Savannah Martz of Salisbury, acquired seven titles in beauty/scholarship pageants over the summer.
Lauren Ashley is a student at Salisbury High School, where she is a class officer, Junior Civitan, a member of the Varsity Golf team, a Varsity Cheerleader and an honors student ranked fourth in her class. She has been a violinist with Salisbury Youth Symphony for four years.
Lauren Ashley has volunteered regularly for Waterworks Visual Art Center, Habitat for Humanity, ARC Rowan, Relay for Life, Special Olympics, the Salisbury Symphony, Young Life, Piedmont Players, Republican Party functions and Rowan Regional Medical Center. She has been actively involved in raising funds for a variety of organizations and spearheaded a program that provided clothing and school supplies to underprivileged children. Across the Carolinas, she has promoted her platform to bring awareness of the special needs to individuals with physical and mental disabilities and promote volunteerism among middle and high school girls.
Academically, Lauren Ashley plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree and then a medical degree in the neonatal or pediatric field. With these titles, Lauren Ashley will go on to compete in state, national and international pageant.
Murdoch – Shannon

A 2004 graduate of Salisbury High School, Alice is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management at North Carolina State University.
The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Gordon J. Shannon of Marathon, Fla. A 1996 graduate of Salisbury High School, Gordon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2001. He is a Technical Architect for AT&T Managed Business Services.
The couple are honeymooning in St. Lucia.
Putnam 50th Anniversary
Jerry William Putnam and Carolyn Holshouser Putnam of Rockwell celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 16, 2008, at a dinner with their family at Ivanís Restaurant and a trip to Pigeon Forge, Tenn. The Putnams were married Aug. 16, 1958, at the West Park Baptist Church parsonage in Rockwell by Rev. Jack Watts. Their children are Steven William Putnam of Rockwell and Lisa Putnam Beaver and husband Billy Beaver of China Grove. They have two grandchildren, Jesse Lee and Clinton William Beaver.
Rhodes – Neely
David and Sydna Rhodes of Lincolnton are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Kathryn Rhodes of Charlotte, to Dustin James Clayton Neely of Salisbury.
The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Robert and Widdy Barnhill of Gastonia and Jack and Margaret Rhodes of Lincolnton. A 2003 graduate of East Rowan High School and 2007 graduate of the University of North Carolina at charlotte, Mary is employed by Liberty Mutual in Charlotte.
The future groom is the son of Clay and Diane Neely of Salisbury; the grandson of Roy and Jean Morris of Salisbury and Judith and the late Jim Neely of Concord; and the great-grandson of Bea Ryder. A 2001 graduate of South Rowan High School and a 2006 graduate of Johnson and Wales University, Dustin is a chef at Charlotte City Club in Charlotte.
The wedding is Sept. 13 at Grace Lutheran Church in Salisbury.
Sartain – Kemp

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sartain and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Robinette, all of China Grove. A 2000 graduate of South Rowan High School, Joy is employed by South Rowan Academy Daycare.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Kemp of Richfield and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Sloop of Mooresville, Amanda Kemp of Rockwell and Barry Kemp of Richfield. A 2001 graduate of Rockwell Christian School, Andrew is employed by RMC Construction.
The couple are making their home in Rockwell.
Slone – Scruggs
Mr. and Mrs. Paul R. Slone of Madison, Miss., announce the engagement of their daughter, Stacy Marie Slone, to Joshua Samuel Scruggs, son of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Scruggs of Durham.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe W. Chamblee, Sr. and Mrs. Connie Slone and the late Mr. H. D. Slone, all of Carthage, Miss.
The prospective groom is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. Brown Ketner of China Grove and the late Mr. and Mrs. James C. Scruggs of Spencer.
Miss Slone is a graduate of Madison Central High School and Mississippi College where she received a bachelorís degree in social work. She earned a masterís degree in social work from the University of Tennessee and is currently employed as a hospice social worker with Methodist Alliance Healthcare in Memphis, Tenn.
The prospective bridegroom is a graduate of Cresset Christian Academy and Wingate University, where he received a Bachelorís degree in Accounting with Honors. He is a 2008 graduate of Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree. He is currently employed with Anixter, Inc. in Memphis, Tenn.
The couple will exchange vows at 6:00 p.m. Sept. 6 at Kirby Woods Baptist Church in Memphis, Tenn.
Vickers-Koch – Walton
David and Mary Vickers-Koch of Charlotte are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Julia Anna Vickers-Koch, to Clark Christopher Walton, son of Ralph and Colleen Walton of Salisbury.
The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Connie and the late John Vickers of Charlotte and Harry and the late Anita Koch of Springfield, Ohio. A 2001 graduate of Charlotte Country Day School, Julia earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a minor in Entrepreneurship from North Carolina State University, where she graduated in 2005. She is Director of Chapters and Councils for the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.
The future groom is the grandson of the late Arnold and Mildred Walton of Granite Quarry and the late Arthur Trexler and the late Nellie Trexler of Salisbury. A 1996 graduate of East Rowan High School, Clark earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he graduated in 1999, and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., where he graduated in 2005. He is an attorney with the law firm Mayer Brown LLP in Charlotte.
The couple will be wed November 1 at Belk Chapel at Queens University of Charlotte.
