Today: Union Chapel tailgate party

LINWOOD — Union Chapel AME Zion Church, 4329 Sowers Road, will host its second annual NFL program today at 6 p.m. Four teams will be represented.

Team Panthers: Caylean Mitchell of Greensboro, speaking on Blocking;

Team Giants:Joshua Holmes of Winston-Salem speaking on Scrimmage;

Team Cowboys: Minster Joe Holmes speaking on Offside;

Team Steelers: Rev Dairl Scott Jr. speaking on Field Goal.

After the service is a tailgate party in the fellowship hall. Come dressed in your favorite NFL attire. Micheal Frencher Jr. is host pastor.

Tonight: Homemade chicken & noodle supper

CHINA GROVE — Today is the homemade chicken & noodle supper at Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church, 750 Mt. Moriah Church Road, with entertainment by The Efird Family Singers and Special Friends.

Food will be served 6 -7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 6:45 p.m.

Homecoming at Cooleemee First Baptist

COOLEEMEE — Cooleemee First Baptist Church, 204 Marginal St., will observe homecoming Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service with guest speaker Pastor Gary Marshall. There will be special music by Benita Finney and The Finney Family. Bring food to share after the service at a covered dish lunch.

There is no Sunday school or evening worship on Sunday.

Homecoming at Southside Baptist 

Homecoming at Southside Baptist Church, at the intersection of Morlan Park Road and Jake Alexander Blvd. is Sunday beginning with special singing at 10 a.m. by Gary Greene, Diane Smith and Jeanette Lomax. Brother Gary Craven will bring the homecoming message. A covered dish lunch will be served afterwards, celebrating 75 years of serving the Lord.

Baptism at Mt. Zion UCC 

CHINA GROVE—During the 10:30 a.m. service Amelia Ann Holshouser will receive the Sacrament of Baptism and Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, 1415 S. Main St., and Holy Communion will be celebrated. Mt. Zion practices an Open Table where all may participate. Following worship Mt. Zion UCC is hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 1-5:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Confirmation at Ursinus UCC

ROCKWELL — Ursinus United Church of Christ, 116 W. Main St. will celebrate Confirmation and welcome two new members at the 11 a.m. service on Sunday. New members are Lauren Gibson, daughter of Michael and Erica Gibson and Nathan Taylor, son of Joel and Jennifer Taylor. Pastor Catherine Costello will officiate.

Homecoming at Friendship Baptist

Friendship Baptist Church, 100 Porter Road, will be celebrating its 32nd homecoming on Sunday. Special music and the message will be by Brother Jared Graham. Services begin at 11 a.m. There will be a covered dish meal afterward. Host pastor is Jason Pierce.

Bruce Woodman at Maranatha

Bruce Woodman, international evangelist, will speak Sunday at Maranatha Bible Church, 2320 Statesville Blvd.

Impact International, under Woodman’s leadership, proclaims the Gospel throughout Central and South America with city-wide crusades, television and radio ministries.

Blessing of the Animals at Gloria Dei 

The annual Blessing of the Animals is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m., weather permitting. All are welcome to attend the outside event at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on Statesville Boulevard. Please have all dogs on leashes.

New Zion Choir anniversary

The senior choir’s 87th anniversary will be observed at New Zion Baptist Church, 2785 Dunn’s Mountain Road, on Sunday at 3 p.m. Visiting choirs will be coming from from Charlotte, Troutman, Huntersville, Kannapolis and Cornelius. Open to the public. Rev. V. Patrick Jones is host pastor.

Women’s Day at Henderson Grove

Henderson Grove Baptist Church will celebrate Women’s Day on Sunday at 3 p.m . The guest speaker will be the Rev. Joyce Williams, associate minister of Rhema Praise and Worship in Spencer. The Rev. Perry J. Dye is the host pastor.

Homecoming at St. John AME Zion 

St. John AME Zion Church will observe its annual homecoming and fall revival at services beginning Sunday at 3 p.m. with guest speaker Rev. Jarma Chisholm of Columbus Chapel AME Zion Church, Davidson . Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.

Outreach Christian Ministries Intl. will be having a Shepherd’s Care service on Sunday with Bishop Tejado Hanchell from Mt. Calvary Holy Church of Winston-Salem as the speaker. The service will start at 6 p.m. at 722 W. Horah St.

Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist revival

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Shirley Ave., will celebrate Fall revival on Tuesday-Wednesday, Oct. 3-4, at 7 p.m.

Dr. Larry W. Whitley, pastor of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Matthews, will be the evangelist. Dr. Nilous M. Avery, II, is host pastor.

Dr. Whitley is a retired Captain of the NC Highway Patrol, has served as Moderator of the former Mecklenburg General Baptist Association of Charlotte, and currently serves on the Board of Commissioners for the Town of Matthews.

Educational Event at Immanuel

CHINA GROVE—On Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall, Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 365 Brown Road, will be holding its monthly Church in Learning event. Presenting a session on the book of Romans will be Rev. Dr. Bradley Trick, assistant professor of New Testament at Hood Seminary. Dr. Trick holds a Ph.D. from Duke Divinity School.

This study on Romans will show how the whole letter was written to address the need for a deeply divided community to come together. For more information, call 704-633-0724.

Revival at Sherrills Ford Road Baptist

Evangelist Jim Harris will be preaching at SFRBC, 6455 Sherrills Ford Road, beginning on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., and also Monday through Wednesday, Oct. 9-11, at 7 p.m.

Neel Road Baptist

Representatives from the Missions Team attended the “God Sightings” program at Rockwell Baptist Church on Sept. 28. Participating in the Association’s Red Box program, deodorant was given for use by women in prison.
