* Time: 7:30 p.m.
* 2007 records: Northwest Cabarrus 10-3; Jay M. Robinson 4-7
* Last meeting: Northwest outscored the 4A Bulldogs 28-21
* Next week: Northwest Cabarrus is at home against Central Cabarrus; Robinson is at Hickory Ridge
* Game notes: With quarterback Jeremy Cannon, Northwest figured to compete with West Rowan, Mooresville and Statesville for the NPC title.
With Cannon injured, who knows?
Itís tough to lose a starting QB in August, and Northwest is auditioning a number of candidates.
New coach Rich Williams is saying all the right things about Northwest not being a one-man, and if someone can perform adequately at the QB spot, the Trojans will still win their share because theyíve got a lot of solid, experienced players.
Northwest was already dealing with the loss of projected No. 1 receiver Kris Farley to Independence, but the Trojans still have wideout Graham Wright (40 catches, 621 yards), Fred House (20 catches) and 6-foot-5 tight end Gavin Billings, a D-I prospect.
Dolando Clowney (202 rushing yards) has to anchor the running game. Center Travis Matte leads the offensive line.
Big Anthony Dickerson, Kendall Self, Ira Hines, Corey Burdette and Grant Keyes are experienced defenders.
The biggest question mark besides quarterback is the defensive backfield, where three starters graduated.
The jayvee team was 8-2 in 2007 and provides plenty of depth.
Speedy running back Jason Hampton (1,240 rushing yards, 12 TDs) is expected to lead Robinson, and 350-pound Ben Ramirez is quite an obstacle on the line. Mike Skiptunas is a standout linebacker.
The Bulldogs will miss R.J. Mattes, a big lineman whoís now at N.C. State.
