North Carolinian Cheralyn Lambeth will be one of the guests appearing at the 2008 MonsterCon. Although she is best known for her talents in costuming and prop building, she says she also hopes to promote her recent interest in and work with “ghost research.”
“I am currently working on a couple of books on that topic,” she says.
At MonsterCon, however, her greatest claim to fame may be her work in the Star Trek franchise. Lambeth has worked in Charlotte as the production supervisor in the Character Studio at Paramount Production Services, producing Star Trek costumes and props for Paramount Parks as well as the Star Trek Earth Tour, a travelling display of Star Trek history.
“I got pretty good at cranking out Klingon boots and spine armor very quickly!” she says of the experience.
Her passion for costuming also led her to become involved with the “Fighting 501st Legion of Stormtroppers” (a costuming group for fans of the villains of Star Wars), and she currently serves as the “commanding officer” (or chapter president), of the Carolina Garrison. Lambeth will appear in the upcoming documentary about the Legion, titled “Heart of an Empire.”
“Even though the group was originally formed as a social club,” she says, “it has since been very active in various community and charity events such as movie premieres, celebrity appearances, hospital visits, and fund raisers.” For more information about the documentary, visit www.heartofanempire.com.
Other recent credits for Lambeth include the film “Leatherheads.”
“I actually worked in several capacities on ‘Leatherheads,’ she says.
“I started out as an ‘extra,’ one of the many fans in the stadium for the football game scenes; but since I knew many of the costuming crew (having worked with them before on other projects) I was quickly recruited to assist the wardrobe staff as one of the set costumers.
“It’s always a fun experience to be able to work on both sides of the camera!”
