SALISBURY — A Greensboro woman was charged with prescription fraud after a local pharmacist checked into a prescription she tried to use, a police report said.
Salisbury police charged Luquanna Montoyia Lucas, 24, of the 700 block of East Lindsey Street, Apartment F, Greensboro, with obtaining prescription by fraud or forgery.
Officials say Lucas went to Walgreens at East Innes Street and Faith Road about 1:30 p.m. Saturday and handed the pharmacist a prescription for oxycodone written for Juanita Johnson. Lucas reportedly told the pharmacy staff that she was filling the prescription for her mother.
The pharmacist noticed the handwriting was very neat, which is uncommon for prescriptions the pharmacy usually receives, police Capt. Shelia Lingle said.
The pharmacist checked the telephone number for the Greensboro doctor’s office listed on the prescription and discovered it was not a current telephone listing.
The pharmacist found a current number and contacted someone who said Juanita Johnson was not a patient and confirmed that the prescription was forged.
Lucas also has a pending case in Guilford County for simple possession of marijuana and having an expired registration plate. She is expected to appear in a Rowan County court in November.
Lucas was issued a $2,500 secured bond and was released from the Rowan County Detention Center.
