Pfeiffer seeks more dialoguePfeiffer University begins its 10th annual Campus Week of Dialogue today, continuing through Friday. The event is an opportunity for students, faculty, staff and community members to engage and learn in open discussions about issues affecting both local and global communities.
The events are free and open to the public
Planned by the Francis Center for Servant Leadership, a series of workshops will focus on this year’s theme “Take a Stand,” focusing on 2008 as the year for youth engagement. Campus officials hope the Campus Week of Dialogue will promote an understanding about the issues facing today’s youth and how they can implement change.
“This year, the Francis Center hopes to not only shed light on current issues plaguing communities today, but to provide the Pfeiffer community with opportunities to be engaged citizens,” said Sudie Nallo, director of Service Scholar Programs for the Francis Center.
The events begin today with dinner in the Stokes Student Center dining hall and discussions about domestic violence.
Through the week, workshops are scheduled on natural disaster response, animal rights, election 2008 and the environment.
The special week concludes at 8 p.m. Friday with the “Night of Expression,” an opportunity for Pfeiffer students to express their artistic abilities and promote diversity throughout campus. The night will also include an educational component about the environment as well as what the campus community can do to have a positive impact.
Campus Week of Dialogue began in 1998 to unite universities and communities in meaningful discussions about issues challenging the world. The week was originally devoted to the discussion of racial diversity, but today, it has evolved into a variety of topics ranging from the environment to elections.
