KANNAPOLIS — In his bid for City Council, Chris Gordon says he wants to see economic development that keeps the city’s character intact.
Gordon, 35, is a lifelong resident of Kannapolis who works as creative director and senior executive at Hirschfeld Marketing Solutions. Gordon says he’s running for City Council to ensure Kannapolis is a place that his children will be proud of and return to in order to raise their families.
He said the current council has done a good job of pushing for downtown revitalization.
“While I plan to continue our push for economic growth and development, my main goal is to ensure that the character of this city remains intact,” Gordon said. “With growth, I don’t want to lose sight of our history and who we are as a community.”
He said providing police, fire and utility departments with the tools and resources they need will also be an important task.
A 1999 graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School, Gordon holds a degree in motorsports business and management from Rowan-Cabarrus Community college and an accreditation in environmental safety from Greenville Technical College.
Prior to his current job, Gordon was a professional race car driver, a stuntman and vice president of his family’s construction business. He’s a 2015 graduate of the Kannapolis Police Citizens Academy and a member of the Northwest Cabarrus Athletic Boosters.
Gordon and his wife, Jessica, have two daughters and a baby on the way.
He’s one of seven candidates running for three seats on the Kannapolis City Council.
