CHINA GROVE — In his bid for re-election, Councilman Charles Seaford says he’s seen recent progress in the town and wants to be part of future economic growth.

Seaford, 65, is seeking his third term as a China Grove town councilman. He’s one of five candidates seeking three seats on the board.

Seaford works as a training coordinator at the Buck Combined Cycle Plant in the Dukeville area.

Seaford says his priorities include making parks and recreation improvements, ensuring the town holds monthly downtown events and managing economic growth.

“I have seen the progress we have made in China Grove. We’re making progress in the town,” he said. “I want to see that progress keep moving, and I want to be part of that.”

Speaking about parks and recreation, Seaford said the town needs to continue holding meetings of the recently re-established parks and recreations board.

Downtown events are important, he said, because they allow residents of China Grove to “know your neighbor.”

He said examples of downtown events include Farmers Day, cruise-ins and movies in the park.

Seaford and his wife, T.J., have two sons, two daughters and five grandchildren.

He attends Rodgers Park Baptist Church, where he serves as an usher and teaches senior adult Sunday school classes. He’s a member of the Bostian Heights Fire Department, an emergency medical technician and an instructor at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.

He previously worked as chief and assistant chief of the Rowan County Rescue Squad.
