Five seniors helped Salisbury’s girls tennis team clinch the outright CCC title with a 9-0 victory against North Rowan on Tuesday.The Hornets, who already had beaten second-place Ledford twice, got a win at the top of the lineup from junior Hannah Lebowitz. Seniors Kirstin Meyerhoeffer, Shea Comadoll, Dzenita Sukurica, Sun Dragas and Sarah Truemper were the other singles winners for the Hornets (17-1, 13-0 CCC).
Comadoll-Joy Loeblein, Dragas-Meyerhoeffer and Sukurica-Truemper picked up doubles wins.
– Prep cross country
Salisbury’s girls cross country team won a meet with CCC schools Central Davidson, West Davidson and Providence Grove at Dan Nicholas Park.
The Hornets finished with 23 points, and second-place Central had 41. Emily Shields won the race with a time of 20 minutes, 50 seconds and beat Katherine Shields, her twin sister, for the first time in a meet.
“She just began to sprint in the end and I couldn’t catch her,” said Katherine, who had a time of 21:00.
Salisbury’s other finishers were Brooke Johnson (fifth, 22:03), Katelyn Horning (seventh, 22:24), Jenna Bryan (eighth, 22:25), Margaret Kaufman (12th, 22:49), Laurel Loeblein (17th), Carrie Thompson (19th) and Taylor Slate (21st).
* Salisbury’s boys had 48 points and finished second to Central Davidson, which totaled 30.
Salisbury’s scorers were winner Philip Tonseth (17:30), third-place Nick Summers (17:40), 11th-place Tyler Downs (20:01), 14th-place Marqui Ross (21:16) and 19th-place Daniel DeGraaf (21:31).n East Rowan’s boys scored 32 points and won a meet at West Iredell on Tuesday. Lake Norman (44), West Rowan (78), West Iredell (96) and North Iredell (125) followed the Mustangs.
East’s Ross Oden was the top individual with a time of 17:45. East teammate Cole Honeycutt was second in 17:46.8
Eli Walton (sixth), J. Michael Shuping (10th), Brad Oden (13th) and Coleton Boone (14th) were the other top finishers for the Mustangs.West Rowan’s Dillon Kluttz took fourth, and Chris Holmes was eighth.

Carson’s jayvee football game at South Rowan starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
– Salisbury parking
Reserve parking for the Salisbury-East Davidson varsity football game Friday is available at the Salisbury school office from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Spaces are limited and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Questions should be directed to the school office at 704-636-1221.
– Double eagle
Tim Jones made a hole-in-one on the par-4 fifth hole at McCanless on Tuesday.
The hole measures 370 yards, but Jones shortened the distance by going over the trees of a dogleg. He hit with a driver and used a golf ball named “Fuzz.”
Jones was playing in the Tuesday scramble with partners Gino Green, Earl Mason and Howard Owen. It’s the second ace on this hole in recent history.
– Middle school softball
West Rowan Middle’s softball team defeated Corriher-Lipe 11-7.
Michaela White, Kailey Anglin and Catherine Whitley had two hits to lead the Bulldogs (5-2).
Kristine South and Christine Turner were key defensive players, and Maria Taylor got the win.
– Middle school tennis
Sacred Heart Middle School’s girls tennis team lost 6-3 to Salisbury Academy. Kelly Dulkoski, Lauren Gray and Jordan DeJaco claimed singles wins for the Dolphins (4-1).
– Salisbury Academy
Treg Bergsma finished first and led Salisbury Academy’s boys cross country team to first place in a meet held in Statesville. SA’s Michael Ogden was second.
Madeline Hoskins and Samantha Wright finished in the top three and helped the Salisbury Academy girls team take second.
* Allie Billings, Anna Flynn, Sally Fowler, Alexandra Drye, Mackenzie Beaver, Ann Rollins Johnson, Olivia Smith and Drew Pethel won matches in an 8-1 tennis victory against William Ellis.
