SALISBURY — A new strategic plan for Rowan-Salisbury Schools is almost ready. The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education will receive a draft copy of the new plan at its Monday work session.

In 2014, the system drafted a three-year strategic plan that had major goals focusing on literacy and implementation of technology. But when 2017 rolled around, it was time for a new focus. For the past six months, staff have been reviewing pieces of the former strategic plan, and working to construct a new one.

School systems are required by the state to have three-year plans outlining system goals and focuses.

Staff identified five goals for the next three years: continued development of reading skills, development of human resources and community schools, implementing a district mindset and providing well-maintained school buildings for staff and students.

New to the proposed strategic plan are one-year goals that can be evaluated annually. Goals apply to the district, staff and students.

The board will meet Monday at 1 p.m. in the Wallace Educational Forum board room, 500 N. Main St.

In other business the board will:

• Look at a plan to install solar panels at Salisbury High School.
• Discuss the possibility of creating a Business Advisory Council.
• Discuss possible construction alternates for West Rowan Elementary.
