GREENVILLE ó East Carolina University police chief says the school will use only local officers after complaints of excessive force after fans charged the field to celebrate the Piratesí upset of West Virginia.
Scott Shelton said the department had completed an initial inquiry and identified police officers and sheriffís deputies from various agencies shown in video clips of incidents after the game. He said the school has forwarded that information to the appropriate agencies, which will determine possible discipline.
Video shows some fans who ran onto the field following the Piratesí 24-3 win over the then-No. 8 Mountaineers were knocked down and roughed up by authorities.
The win propelled the Pirates to No. 14 nationally, their first appearance in the Top 25 since 1999.
SOUTH CAROLINA
COLUMBIA, S.C. ó Stephen Garciaís time at quarterback is coming for South Carolina. Not Saturday against No. 2 Georgia, coach Steve Spurrier says, but possibly soon.
Spurrier and the Gamecocks have been looking for an answer to inconsistent quarterback play. Junior Tommy Beecher and sophomore Chris Smelley have been uneven. So talk has naturally centered on Garcia, a redshirt freshman.

CLEMSON, S.C. ó Clemsonís Cullen Harper expects his sore shoulder to be 100 percent on Saturday against North Carolina State.
Harper, the ACCís preseason player of the year, told reporters he had dealt with a right shoulder sprain last week leading up to Clemsonís 45-17 win over The Citadel.

BATON ROUGE, La. ó LSU has scheduled its return to Tiger Stadium on Saturday night to host North Texas, one week after postponing its game with Troy because of Hurricane Gustav.
LSU officials say they are confident that Tiger Stadium will ready by the weekend, but wanted to make sure the area would not be threatened by Hurricane Ike.
