While Carson lost ó mostly because of four picks and two killer plays on special teams ó it dominated the line of scrimmage for three quarters against a 3-0 team.
Mooresville coach Barclay Marsh, has a tough job this week. He has to bring his team back down to earth after a tremendous win over A.L. Brown and he also has to convince his guys to take Carson seriously in his teamís NPC opener. This isnít the same Carson team Mooresville flattened 54-0 in 2006.
Last yearís game was actually competitive ó 14-0 at halftime ó mostly because Carson was able to put a lid on Mooresvilleís star back Jjshaun Pinkston. Pinkston had his way with A.L. Brown last week ó at least in the first half ó but the Cougars held him to 34 yards on 17 carries in 2007.
Mooresville has similarities with Salisbury. Like the Hornets, it has a quarterback (Nathan Abraham), who runs very well. Itís a fair guess the Cougars, who have a solid group of sure tacklers in the secondary, will stack the box against Pinkston and try to force Abraham to put the ball in the air.
Carsonís Travis Hayes caught a TD pass last week and also caught one against Mooresville last season.
Carson linebacker John Mullis scored a TD on a fumble return last week and set up another score with a second recovery.
