SALISBURY — Four teenagers face felony charges of breaking into a vehicle after they were spotted by members of First United Methodist Church taking items into the church from their vehicles.

Salisbury police charged Andreon Tyquan Kerns, 17, of the 400 block of Swicegood Road, Cooleemee; Dashawn Tyrone Coleman, 16, of the 700 block of East Council Street; and two 15-year-olds with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny and misdemeanor injury to personal property.

Police received a call that a break-in occurred at 8:15 p.m. Saturday at the church, 217 S. Church St. People in the parking lot were chasing a group of teens who had taken items from a vehicle there.

According to a report, the teens split up as they were chased. Officers found two of them at South Ellis and West Marsh streets while the others were found at West Bank and South Jackson streets.

Police found an iPad, two iPhones, a book bag, a phone case, a Vera Bradley wallet and a Calvin Klein purse. Police were able to use the tracking system on the cellphone to locate the teens. The cellphone’s owner was able to verify ownership by typing in the pass code.

Coleman remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond while Kerns has since been released under a $5,000 secured bond.

All of the stolen items were returned to the owners.
