Letter: President’s actions, words show how unaware he is

Is anybody else tired of watching our president make a fool of himself and a mockery of our country?
When Harvey hit Texas, he flew there twice. The first time he went to a very secure area and made no contact with victims but bragged about how many people came to see him. He took the second trip only because of criticism. He did talk to some victims. But then he showed his lack of awareness by supposedly helping load supplies. As he left, he told the victims to have a good time.
His trip to Puerto Rico was his crowning accomplishment. He is shown throwing rolls of paper towels to the crowd. Then he is shown handing out flashlights. But he says he doesn’t know why people need these, as all the power is back on. He is unaware that most of the island still has no power.
The NFL fiasco is another area where he has shown a lack of awareness. He used very vulgar language in one of his pep rallies to inflame his base. Criticizing is one thing but saying to throw the “expletive” out is not a good way. The resulting demonstrations were a reaction to his speech and not because of a lack of appreciation for the country.
In schools we were told to ignore the singular student who did not stand for the pledge, which we recited every day. The best way to deal with them is to simply ignore them.
The Las Vegas shootings opened other wounds. No Republican wants to talk about gun control; they are too well funded by the NRA. The Second Amendment is not going away but the framers never intended weapons of mass destruction to be included. It is time for someone to stand up for common sense.
